The concept of playing any person in a band on the DS is cool, but I see now that without Guitar Hero DS type peripherals, the game is very limited to how each instrument is used.
Guitar is strum up, down or at the most difficult, in a circular motion, all in time with the beat. Easy. Bass is pick the correct string in a specified up or down motion at the given time. Easy. Drums prove the most difficult since they tell you to use the stylus and then after numerous tries, you toss it aside in favor of using both thumbs to hit the correct drum pad. For most people, your thumbs will be too big for any ONE pad, meaning you'll probably hit the next one over. Vocals prove to be the best aspect of the game since just like Rock Band and other games, singing consists of keeping the beat and being key.
Although I am disappointed with the DS version of this game, I look forward to playing the Xbox 360 version with an actual guitar.
As an avid gamer who believes in giving ANY game a try, I cannot tell you not to try this game. Who knows, you might actually like it. If so, good for you! But since you probably have a Gamefly account, please rent before you buy.
