Don't get me wrong, I look fondly at my copies of Amplitude and Frequency. But there's a reason I don't play them any more: Harmonix upped the ante with Guitar Hero and then Rock Band, and there's no going back. Playing through the 41 songs of Rock Band Unplugged (a track list which has quite a few repeats from previous versions) is fun, but it's a momentary thrill: unlike the console versions, where half the fun is in switching instruments, and the other half is in showing up your friends, there's little replay value here.

That said, the game still plays smoothly and looks great. But I'd rather play a wacky rhythm game like Elite Beat Agents than have a lesser "Rock Band" experience. With some tweaking, this game seems like it'd be a better fit as an iPhone app, allowing you to play along with your own collection of songs; as is, it's a quick PSP rental. (And be sure that you have headphones; without 'em, good luck following the tinny rhythms of your poor PSP speakers.)

Indeed, times have changed; no need to step back to an analog era.

Unplugged has a decent concept and is very challenging but if you own alot of Rockband 2 DLC it can get a little boring. The skill levels are very accurate, expert will leave you very challenged but the detection and/or the button layout is a little tricky and you'll probably be fumbling around if you try expert too early.

Unplugged is probably nice if you haven't experienced the songs before but i think most poeple will just be craving to play the songs on the real (plastic intruments ala Rockband 1/2)

I've always been a huge rhythm game fan, so I was eager to try this portable version of Rock Band. If you have never played Rock Band or Guitar Hero, then I recommend you start on easy or medium. Many of the same features from Rock Band remain and it isn't a watered down version from the console version. The setlist is awesome and varies from the Jackson 5 to System of a Down. One of my main gripes with the game is no CO-OP or online features, this is truly a single player experience. The game also includes a music store, yet it is unfortunate music bought from the PS3 won't transfer to the PSP. Regardless, this is a great game that will provide hours of rocking out!
