entertaining RTS

As far as RTS's go, it is rather run of the mill. As far as RTS's go on the DS, it was pretty good. The story is intentionally silly and the cut scenes are entertaining. The meat of the game takes you through a series of missions where you can build various buildings/factories to provide your units while collecting resources to build then with. You have hero units, grunts and medics. Only the hero units are directly under your control while grunts and medics can be told what to do with action flags. This was a good compromise because of the real estate on the DS, otherwise you would be going mad trying to micromanage all your units. On the flip side, the grunts don't always do what you want and can wander away or get caught up in the environment.
The gameplay can be challenging. I found on medium difficulty I had to redo some of the missions. Sometimes it was just cheap on the AI side. For instance on an escort mission I had to protect a member of our party, but the enemy used a "secret tunnel" to all of a sudden pop up in front of the person as I was getting near the end and I was out of position to defend.
If you enjoy RTS's, you should enjoy this game. You won't find anything new here, but it will scratch that DS RTS itch you might have.
