Ridge Racer for Nintendo DS Reviews by Gamers

I am a Ridge Racer fan but even I can't deny how broken and frustrating this game. Only a fan could put up with this game, it's extremely unforgiving. You go extremely fast and the roads are very narrow. You hit the sides of the roads constantly and there's little you can do about it. (and the sound for hitting the wall is really annoying) You barely have room to pass opposing cars or even drift, and it is very difficult to recover from a drift without hitting the sides. One of the new courses requires you to drift while going straight to handle jagged roads that can't be handled any other way. Very cheap design. The game's framerate is not good, either. The later races are so fast that you can barely even see what's coming up because of that and also the poor resolution. The game has an option to let you steer using the touchscreen, which is really fun but it's a HUGE handicap and the game is far too difficult to play like this, so forget it.

The graphics are quite good for the DS, and there is some enjoyment to be had here, it's Ridge Racer after all. But I don't see anyone except series fans being able to enjoy this, and even then it's a huge letdown. Ridge Racer on DS should have been great but they really messed it up.
