Files made for a select group of players

The sequel to the Umbrella Chronicles plays much like the first game; you go through twenty levels of rail shooting fun, with guns that you can upgrade for better performance. But there are a few differences in the Darkside Chronicles.
First off, you have more freedom to swap between weapons during a level. Every weapon you get your shooter on is available to use, but you may have to swap weapons on a pause menu.
Second off, health items can be saved for use later on. This makes a huge difference, giving the player the opportunity for optimal use of the green herb. This is a feature I’d like to see in future rail shooters.
But there are problems with the game. The camera jerks about far too much; I think the operator is scared of what’s going on, but is too manly to admit it. Darn it, keep that camera stable!
The dialogue gets really old really fast. How many times do I have to hear one of the characters say “It’s too quiet” Many times, the character doesn’t finish his/her sentence. It’s very annoying.
Some of the problems that rail shooters have aren’t taken on either; Dodging is not an option is here, finding some items (namely the Darkside files.) is tough, and those who hate the lack of camera control will hate this game.
And this game doesn’t really raise the level of action that the first game gave us; it just gives us more of the same.
Still, Resident Evil fans (and fans of the Umbrella Chronicles) will find a lot to like about Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. I say rent it and give it a try, then decide for yourself if you want to buy it.
