This is a good 3rd person shooter, but is in not anything new. It is so far from the survival horror roots that I sent it back without finishing either Chris' or Leon's missions. If this is your first resident evil it would be highly recommended. I have played them all in the order they were released and this one got lost in the "Just another shooter" category. Sorry CAPCOM, but you could have done better.
When I don't like a game at first, I make sure I play thru it for a few hours to give it a chance to develop to see where it's going and give me time to adapt to the mechanics/controls/gameplay before judging it. However, the game didn't get much better after my first impressions. I'm not going to run down everything I didn't like about it, but I will share what kind of impressions it left on me. I was never surprised/shocked by anything. It failed to keep my interest for more than an hour at a time. I never felt any kind of suspense or thrill with what was to come next, no urge to keep playing. I never had a "DAY-UMMM!" moment. I knew exactly what was going to happen before it happened and I cringed at times with the cheesy one liners. I only played thru the first chapter, so maybe it gets better, but after 5 unimpressive hours, I'm most likely moving on. I'd probably would have kept it and played the whole thing if there wasn't several other newer games I'd rather get.
