Resident Evil 4 is revolutionary.

One of the most revolutionary games of all time. It has permanently stamped the over the shoulder shot into horror and non-horror games! This is, without a doubt, the best Resident Evil yet! With horrific predecessors, would the developers ever outdo the horror of the first one!? No, it was done and it was never to be replicated in a different way, so they gambled their dice and decided to take a different route. Well guess what? It worked. But it didn't just work -- it blew people away and was even better than any of the ones before. It used the classic horror techniques from horror movies and from its very own prequels and made this one the perfect combination of horror and action which led the Resident Evil series in a totally different path to be taken.
As Leon you will travel to Spain and encounter a new virus, and zombies of a new kind: Los Illuminados. Throwing in cult horror, zombie horror, Rambo-type action (less exaggerated of course), repulsive monsters and sexy women, you've got the best horror survival game ever. As you progress through Spain, you find yourself unveiling more and more of the Umbrella Corporation and finding different aspects and branches of their experimentation and evil! This game adds the classic back into horror, especially with the gloomy, dead tree setting as well as rainy nights, chainsaws, religious maniacs and absolute rotting stink of death in the air, everywhere you go.
I loved this game and will forever be in my top 10 favorite games ever. The game even adds some humor and you'll grow to love Leon and my second favorite character -- the merchant who refers to you as "stranger". This game is worth buying and after you beat the game, I guarantee you'll beat it again at least two more times due to the unlock able weapons, perks and costumes. Mercenaries is also really fun.
My suggestion: buy it. It will be a vital addition to your game collection!

Resident Evil 4 was and is my favorite video game of all time. The story is incredible, the action is amazing and, the game still retains it's creepy and twisted value. If you have not played this game before, i would suggest renting it out right now. I could go on and on about this game for hours but i don't have that much time or energy. I have beaten this game through more times than any other game i have ever played. This game was made in 2005 and yet it looks like it was made a couple years ago. Overall just an absolutely incredible game.

I had played almost every non - spinoff Resident Evil excluding 0 and this one. Everyone had said that this was the best RE ever, but from having played the oldies and 5, I begged to differ. I'll get what I liked about this one out of the way first: Killing "zombies" was more enjoyable (the suplex is rather satisfying in it's own creepy way), boss fights and certain points in the game presented much challenge, the knife had a point in using it as a weapon, puzzles were still puzzles, and that's it. Here's my qualms about the game: while the over - the - shoulder camera is nice for the COD fanboys out there, it didn't give me that feeling of "There's bound to be anything around that corner that could attack me." like the other games did. Example: There's point where you're walking through a castle and you could see the "zombies" before they had a chance to attack you. Ammo was WAY too easy to come by, I can look in my inventory and just facepalm seeing all the ammo i've got stockpiled for the 2 guns I use (Shotgun and handgun). Grenades, sniper rifles....seriously? Who asked for those, those aren't necessary! The rifle is only meaningful in 1 part of the game, other than that it's a waste of inventory space. It seemed like sometimes it was made to be noob - friendly, and not something actual RE fans could be proud of. In my opinion, this isn't the best one. I still think the oldies (1 - 3) are the best, especially 2.

this is a long, action, adventure, puzzle, shooter game that will keep you playing for hours. its not like cod, where you just blast away everything in sight, this takes much more skill. its pretty much my favorite shooter ever. the only thing i disliked is that u couldnt buy ammo from the merchants. u find plenty of ammo, but it would be nice to kind of be backed up. well watever, its still awesome. buy it.

This game is fantastic, great game Definite BUY!

BUY IT

This game is great, but resident evil classic fans I must say, this is much different from the others.

(by the way I am a huge fan of all the resident evils)

First off, very crisp graphics, and good camera angle, similar to that of Grand theft auto IV.

Secondly, this installment has cut the item boxs and save ribbons. I personally Like it better when your struggling, it makes it mosre survival-horror esq, but it is still great, and does not cut away fromt he fantastic controlls at all.

And last but not least, another thing making itself different than that of resident evil's one two three and etc. is the fact that this one has aiming. Very good aiming. I like both this type of aiming and the type from the classic resident evil's, but this is so that you can shoot a zombie/Grandos in the head, groin, legs, and target shots strategically to cause an outcome wanted by the player. For instance:

In previous resident evil's, you would have to use five or six well placed shots to kill a zombie. In this installment, resident evil 4, you can just aim for the base of the head and with a well placed shot and good timing, you just blew the zombie/granado's head off.

Only problem? Lacks a scare factor at times, though when it is scary, trust me, IT'S SCARY!

So, My advice? Rent, and then buy it... Trust me you won't regret it, this game is one of the BEST horror survival games I have ever played!

(jeez, Im excited just thinking about it!)

Resident Evil 4 now I hate to admit i went through an anti RE4 phase for some reason and i dont know why but know they that I've played it it is officially my favorite The gameplay is great it fixed a lot of problems with the series the tank controls? gone the fixed camera angles? not even there the horrible dialogue and voice acting? the dialogues still there voice actings much improved the graphics are great and are some of the best on the Gamecube to most it looks mediocore by todays standards to me 5 years later it still holds up the incentive to replay is much improved with mercenaries mode assignment ada and over 20 upgradeble guns that you can choose and power up to your liking keeps this game one that will stay in your disk trays for years to come to me it is by no means the best gamecube game (beaten out only by Metroid Prime) or the best Resident Evil (Resident Evil 2 beats it by a landslide) however it is my favorite Resident Evil and it is the best game of 2005 this is one that needs to be in your gaming libary

This is by far like the best shooter ever. It is one of the few shooters that are both first and third person veiw. First it's third person then you start to aim and it's first person. This is a totaly awesome game. It is so adictive I want to play it forever. It's like the best game ever.I give it a definite outstanding 10/10.Best game I ever played.By far!!!

Resident Evil 4 (abreviated RE4), is an action packed shoot' em up with amazing graphics, great controlls and awsome gameplay.
Re4 starts you out as Leon (cop) on a mission to finding the presidents missing daughter ashley.

As you progress through the game you can find iteams such as gold, herbs (for healing), bullets, and bombs. You will confront many enemys such as, infected woman, infected men, chainsaw welding maniacs, an oger, a giant sea monster, and many more weird but cool creaturs.

overall the game hase unique controlls, awsome graphics and a great story:)

I love this game! My wife and I have played through it three times together. Great graphics, good story and excellent gameplay.

It's not perfect however. I hate the inventory system (I guess they felt the need to keep it) which makes you think very hard about what you carry and keeps you honest, but I really think they could've made it a little bit better.
Some times the controls don't work they way they should, either because of an event taking place or the game is confused about what you actually want it to do.
At some points of the game, it is almost impossible to figure out what you are supposed to be doing, and are forced to get the game guide (or go to IGN).

Other than that, this game is AWESOME! Definitely worth buying and playing over and over again! I haven't even checked out online yet because we are having so much fun!

This is by far the best game ive ever played. This is the only game i ever bought on gamecube, not because im poor but because this game is all i ever needed. It has insane replay value and there are times when it's actually scary. Sure its not a RE norm but it's an amazing game and i for one think it completely destroys RE5.

Is that it's nothing like the other Resident Evils you've played. I was not a Resident Evil fan until the 4th installment. I can't say enough about this game. I have never had so much fun being scared crapless. Every "boss" has a unique way you must use to take them down. The headshots are the most satisfying of any game I've encountered. The game is HUGE. There are several times where you think "I must be near the end" - and then 4 hours later of playing you realize you still have a long way to go, and you're definitely happy about it. Truly an amazing accomplishment that has re-defined the R.E. franchise. It provides an incredible basis for every Resident Evil to follow. If you're reading this review, and you have not yet played it.. Do yourself a favor and get it immediately. The gamecube version is great, but, i also got the Wii version which adds the "shoot at screen" aspect. Making it even more enjoyable. One of the very few 10/10 ratings I will ever give.

One of the Best Games Ever Made

I do not give out 10's lightly. In fact, this is the first. I'm also not a fan of the Resident Evil series. I've always found the previous games slow, tedious, with gameplay that was stilted and awkward. That said, RE4 is one of my all time favorite games. The gameplay is as close to perfect as you could hope for in a game of this type. The storyline is engrossing with characters that you care about along with high caliber voice acting and writing. The atmosphere is creepy and pulls you into the action. You will jump at least once while playing this game, and not just from "cheap" scares. Also, while most games with escort missions or another AI controlled player that tags along becomes a pain, RE4 actually manages to make it work well. I cannot stress enough how great this game is. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed.

3 out of 5 gamers (60%) found this review helpful

I am fed up with people saying this is the best Resident Evil. At the most, it's third best, behind RE2 and REmake. The story is great - But that's just Resident Evil. The jump to a shooter from Survival Horror isn't much - in fact, it's still sort of a survival horror. Ammo is plentiful, a strong contrast to earlier games. This lessens the survival. Your attache case is large - instead of six or eight item blocks. But weapons are reasonably sized - no block, but spaces. The larger the item, the more it takes up. Creepy creatures are still plentiful, blind guys with giant claws, potato sack wearing chainsaw murderers, creepy huffing hulks of meat that can't be stopped unless you bloow off certain parts of it's body only viewable through an infrared scope... In other words, don't play it in the dark.

Overall, besides the shooter aspect, this is still Resident Evil, even bringing back Leon from the best RE ever - RE2. So I say an Eight is deserving of this game.

Resident Evil 4 wasn't the greatest of first-person shooters ever created, but it was definitely a good one. To say the least, it's storyline has many twists. Always expect the unexpected, when playing! Resident Evil 4 combines the ability to shoot the living tar out of everything that moves with the ability to get lost in levels that are drooling with plagued villagers and zombies. It left me with a small wet spot in my pants, at the end. Play the game; it's well worth it.

Without RE4, there would be no Gears of War (or Uncharted or Dark Sector etc). Capcom reinvented the series with a much better camera and breathless gameplay. Probably the best game of 2005.

Pros: Loads of atmosphere and tension! For 2005, these were groundbreaking graphics never done as well on consoles by any other game back then; the soundtrack has to heard to be believed - the villager whispers, the gunshots, the monsters grunting - it's amazing; good voice acting and story; run and gun play is great; a good variety of scary environments to go through - not much backtracking like the previous games; intuitive control scheme with some neat QTE gameplay; Leon comes off very cool and competent, not too dorky like he was in RE2; the Ashley babysitting bits were surprisingly enjoyable - her sections were intriguing because she had no guns, only some projectiles and her wits; Mercenaries mode is okay, but I play more for the story and action together; better graphics and sound than the PS2 version.

Cons: No strafing or shooting while moving (something that Gears added and improved upon); pointless "run" button - you don't need that with an analog stick, developers; repetitive action - no place in the game is quite as sensational and eerie as the first village; there were no real surprises in the story and not much actually happened in the middle; the villagers phrases and character models get repetitive; the GC got the game first, but the PS2 port got the excellent extra Ada mode, Separate Ways, which is way better and longer than Assignment Ada, and actually fills in the background of the main story pretty well; the game has "fake" widescreen, meaning it's widescreen reduced inside of 4:3. On my HDTV, I had to zoom the screen a couple of times to get it to fill; the PS2 version has true 16:9.

If you only play two Gamecube games, it's this and Zelda:TP.
