Resident Awesome!

This game has a few words to describe it.
AMAZING! AWSOME, SUPERB, and GREAT.
Unlike the other resident evils, this one does not have a corny aiming system and it does not try to scare you with a lot of blood and gore, it scares you with horror. Now that's one scary game!

What no ZOMBIES!

Resident Evil 4 truly is a remarkable feet in gaming history. This game has it all, the story, gameplay, action, controls, environments, and the characters that all great games must have.

Compared to previous RE games this one is just hands down what all of them should truly be like. If a lot of the survival horror games took pieces from this game, then this genre could be a lot more than what it currently is.

Hopefully Resident Evil 5 learned from this when it debuts on the Xbox 360 most likely in 2008, hopefully holiday 2007.

This game is a must rent for anyone with a Gamecube, but also it is coming to the Wii with different Wii enhanced control scheme, and a lot of bonus material so if you have the Wii, then it is a must wait until that game comes to market.

it plays with an over the shoulder persective which I believe is much more enthralling for the player. It emerses you into a highly realistis survival scenerio where fire power and positioning are the keys to survival. VERY challenging I might add so all you guys not experiences in shooters beware this puppy if for the big boys. hours of awesome gameplay that WILL have you on the edge of you seats and calling your girlfriend over to stay the night so your not as scarred haha, seriously!!! I recommend Upgrading your guns as much as possible, the upgrades are awesome!! I also recommend getting a nice lamp for late night play, just to make sure theres nothing hiding around the corner of your hallway. this game SERIOUSLY has made me jump from the couch to a standing position while gritting my teeth, it's that good. Now if they would just rerelease it on the wii I would probably have to quit my job for a month and stay home with this killer game!

I am an old School fan of the Resident Evil series, and after playing almost every one, I have to say, this is the best one. This game was believable, fun, and the graphics were great. I played this game expecting it to be like the others, which only take a week to beat, but this game was actually lengthy. Great storyline and controls and you gotta love the chainsaw welding murderers. I felt a sense of accomplishment after beating this game and I would recommend it to anyone who liked the other games. Definitely a must play if you are a Resident Evil fan.

Good, but not Best

I am fed up with people saying this is the best Resident Evil. At the most, it's third best, behind RE2 and REmake. The story is great - But that's just Resident Evil. The jump to a shooter from Survival Horror isn't much - in fact, it's still sort of a survival horror. Ammo is plentiful, a strong contrast to earlier games. This lessens the survival. Your attache case is large - instead of six or eight item blocks. But weapons are reasonably sized - no block, but spaces. The larger the item, the more it takes up. Creepy creatures are still plentiful, blind guys with giant claws, potato sack wearing chainsaw murderers, creepy huffing hulks of meat that can't be stopped unless you bloow off certain parts of it's body only viewable through an infrared scope... In other words, don't play it in the dark.

Overall, besides the shooter aspect, this is still Resident Evil, even bringing back Leon from the best RE ever - RE2. So I say an Eight is deserving of this game.

Decent Play

Resident Evil 4 wasn't the greatest of first-person shooters ever created, but it was definitely a good one. To say the least, it's storyline has many twists. Always expect the unexpected, when playing! Resident Evil 4 combines the ability to shoot the living tar out of everything that moves with the ability to get lost in levels that are drooling with plagued villagers and zombies. It left me with a small wet spot in my pants, at the end. Play the game; it's well worth it.

Leon Kennedy's day just got a whole lot worse...

Leon Kennedy is having one of those days. The president's... gifted daughter Ashley has been taken by an evil cult infected by an experimental virus in a run-down European town and Leon has to shoot, slash and demolish his way through them to get her out alive. And you'll probably have a whole bunch of fun while he does it. Resident Evil 4 takes some great steps forward for what might seem like a stale series. Graphics look much more impressive and set the ominous setting for this game. Sound design heightens the suspense and shock it looks to inspire. Static backgrounds have been replaced with full 360 degree environments. In fact, most of the gameplay will seem like a big step up if you've ever played previous games in the series. The guns have free aiming with a laser site and traversing the game space is easy and streamlined. Even the cut scenes have quicktime sections that keep you on your toes. The game lasts as long as you'd want and with the unlockables, extra missions and challenges there is more than enough content to this game. The weapons are even cool, especially the unlockable ones. Nothing seems more satisfactory than blasting an enemy right off it's feet with a fully-upgraded Handcannon or wiping out a small army with the unlimited ammo of the Chicago Typewriter. Yeah, you'll want to play through a second time for these reasons alone. Boss battles are abundant, enemies sneak up on you unexpectedly and there is constant suspense in the air as you play. However, there are some problems. Like me, some people might not like the horror survival genre and being scared while playing a game. Also, you can't walk and shoot at the same time, which is a real detriment. Some of the instant-death quicktime sequences and traps will frustrate some gamers. There's also a fair amount of resource management, which is annoying. But if you a real thrill, this is worth playing.

Really Good, Worth Renting

I've been a Gamefly subscriber for several months now, but this is the first game which I actaully took the time to review.

It is by far the best Resident Evil I've played. The bosses are tough but not impossible. The story is okay. But the villagers are scary (reminds me of any of the Night of the Living Dead). The villagers are fast too and they can dodge your shots. I love the red dot sighting and the sniper rifle is fun.

One of the best aspects is the fact you can encounter merchants which you can buy gun upgrades and other gear. So you can really customize Leon's fighting style (example you can make your guns faster for quick gunfights or get better scopes for the one shot one kill sniper kills.)

But overall, this game is scary. Especially when it becomes night. The bad guy's eyes actually glow at you through the mist! And there's a lot of bad guys to kill.

The game takes on a more arcade action feel than puzzle solving like the earlier Resident Evils. But there are a couple brain teasers out there. But mostly it's run and shoot and then run away.

If you get bored with the game itself there are a couple mini-games as well where you can play some of the secondary characters on quick adventures.

You can play the game on a nice sunny day with all the lights on and the sound turned down. But if you really want to get everything you can out of this game. Wait until night, when your alone, with all the lights turned off. It is Dolby Pro Logic compatiable as well so you want to turn up your subwoofer and 5.1 sound. And be prepared to enjoy a really well made horror survival game with plenty of action, a decent storyline, fair...uh cheesy voice acting, and a lot of very unhappy decaying villagers who weild everything from pitchforks to chainsaws.

God. This was my first RE game, and I'm afraid and exicted to get the next. Scary, addicting, and pure action. That's all that can really be said about this game. That, and countless brawls with the possessed can really change a man. Just ask my ex-convict cousin... muahahaha

Definintly worth renting, and even buying. Just don't let your little sister see it, or bye-bye little purple cube.

Good, but not the RE I was used to

I had played almost every non - spinoff Resident Evil excluding 0 and this one. Everyone had said that this was the best RE ever, but from having played the oldies and 5, I begged to differ. I'll get what I liked about this one out of the way first: Killing "zombies" was more enjoyable (the suplex is rather satisfying in it's own creepy way), boss fights and certain points in the game presented much challenge, the knife had a point in using it as a weapon, puzzles were still puzzles, and that's it. Here's my qualms about the game: while the over - the - shoulder camera is nice for the COD fanboys out there, it didn't give me that feeling of "There's bound to be anything around that corner that could attack me." like the other games did. Example: There's point where you're walking through a castle and you could see the "zombies" before they had a chance to attack you. Ammo was WAY too easy to come by, I can look in my inventory and just facepalm seeing all the ammo i've got stockpiled for the 2 guns I use (Shotgun and handgun). Grenades, sniper rifles....seriously? Who asked for those, those aren't necessary! The rifle is only meaningful in 1 part of the game, other than that it's a waste of inventory space. It seemed like sometimes it was made to be noob - friendly, and not something actual RE fans could be proud of. In my opinion, this isn't the best one. I still think the oldies (1 - 3) are the best, especially 2.

This game looked promising. However, aiming is difficult, and the sheer volume of enemies that spawn can be overwhelming. I gave up getting through the first village after about 10 tries.

The graphics in this game are amazing and there is a ton of action. Even some laughs. But...if you play a lot of Halo or Half Life (and you should) getting used to the targeting is a nightmare. Basically, to aim, you stand completely still and then pivot at your waist. All the while, getting nailed by zombies. I felt like I was drunk, wobbling all over the place. I gave up after an hour.

This game is nothing like the previous 4 resident evil games (Resident Evil 0 - 3)

Enemies spawn out of nowhere, you get no ammo for any of your weapons, you are stationary as you fight, the enemies are too overpowered...
