this game is very shallow and lazy. I feel like it was put together just for the money there basically is no story the gameplay lacks imagination and the presentation is awful and they have the nerve to blame it on the game bieng 8bit. as a fan of the show and of the adventure time game this game could have been so much better and im disapointed about what we got.
Regular Show is a fantastic cartoon that has unfortunately been turned into this rubbish game. 8 Bit Land stars Mordecai and Rigby in a platforming adventure after they get sucked into a video game.
The Good: The bosses are cool throwbacks to the show and there are a few shout outs here and there that entertain, like the death-kwan-do power-ups. These are a must, as without them you have no attack powers and must jump on things to hurt them, a difficult task as you have no health; a singly hit and you die.
The Bad: This game is a mess. The platforming can be fun at times but a large portion is going to be spent trying to avoid enemies unless you have a power-up. You collect money, video tapes and fanny packs. Money lets you buy chances for bonuses at the end of a level, with three being the maximum you're guaranteed at least one prize. The video tapes help unlock extras and bonuses, mainly concept art and other things. The fanny packs seem to have absolutely no purpose.
In addition to platforming, there are space-ship sections where you pilot a Mordecai-ship through space and shoot enemies and collect stuff. There's also top-down sections where you play as Rigby and shoot enemies like the Blondes and the Summer-time Lovin' song. You also collect things in this section and switch back to platforming with the touch of a button. When platforming you can switch between Mordo and Rigs with the X button, though the only reason you'll want to switch from Mordecai is to get into small spaces, otherwise Rigby is pretty useless.
Aside from tedious and boring gameplay there's also little charm. There are no other characters outside of Benson in the beginning and ending from the show, except for the bosses but no spoilers here. The silver lining is that if you can stomach the gameplay long enough it should be quick enough to beat, I did it in a few hours. 4 worlds, 4 levels each world and a boss.
This was a trying experience and I wasted a few hours of my life on
I see that this game isn't getting reviewed very well on this site, so I am dispelling the proper positive review this game deserves. As a fan of the show I was certainly happy to know this game was coming out. I bought it and it certainly plays homage to the 80s as well as the show does. Like with the Adventure Time game, Wayforward made excellent sprites and backgrounds that look just like the show's art. Even with that, the game plays so much like old 8-bit games like what you'd find on the NES, the kind of stuff the show's creator J.G. Quintel grew up with. You can say the levels are two hard and that's why it sucks, but remember that this is the kind of difficulty gamers had to work with back in the day. At least we have save points so if we can't win we at least can start over without actually starting over. I think it's a great game, a great game for the show and a great throwback to Generation X's NES classics, from the platformers of old to the shooters and even Contra. I highly recommend it, even if you're not a Regular Show fan.
