I'd just like to state something for the record: I'm writing this review as a rebuttal to the currently posted reviews (mostly 1's and 4's). They judged this game incredibly harshly, mostly because it did not live up to Red Faction: Guerrilla, though this game is still quite fun. So, without further ado, here's my opinion of it.
Cons: 1. Yes, like others have said, this game is not open-world like Guerrilla was, instead focusing on a linear campaign. This removes a lot of the gameplay. 2. Removal of a competitive multiplayer. I wasn't a big fan of it, preferring Halo 3, so it's not that big of a lose for me, but if you were a fan, you'd probably be angry to find out. 3. A lack of destruction challenges and a lack of emphasis on destruction, which is really the series' strongest aspect. 4. Very short. Worth a rent, don't buy it though, or else you will be disappointed.
Pros: 1. The story is at least interesting, and the interactions with Darius and SAM are enjoyable, with both giving each other sass on a fairly regular basis. 2. The magnet gun. This is basically the best gun ever in any game. You attach a magnet to a target, then set an anchor. So, you can launch enemies off cliffs, or smash a building's wall into the opposite wall. 3. The segments with the different armored vehicles were all a lot of fun. Better than the walkers and stuff from Guerrilla. 4. There's an Infestation mode, which is like Firefight from Halo, with a lot of options for maps. 5. The upgrades to the Nano Forge with the ability to repair buildings is a great new feature.
In conclusion, if you were a fan of Guerrilla, you will likely enjoy this as well. Just be aware that there won't be an open world, and as a result, this game doesn't have as much content, though it is still fun. If you only liked the multiplayer, though, you obviously won't like this. If you're looking to rent a Red Faction game and haven't played Guerrilla, just checking this one out, I recommend Guerrilla instead.
I honestly don't know why gamers are giving this game such a bad review...no it isn't a sandbox game like Guerilla was but it is an awesome game none the less. I'm about half way through with the campaign and i've enjoyed every minute of it so far. Infestation mode is also a very fun and challenging experience. Every weapon you get in the game is fun to use and nothing is better that tearing stuff up. I for one love games where you get to demolish things and this game is the best one I've ever played for doing just that. Please try this game for yourself and don't listen to the people that are mad because it's different than the last one. KTHANXBYE
Just like the other reviews, I got this because I figured there would be an Open World environment.
It was not.
The graphics are stunning, the game play is intuitive, and most of all--it has a great plot line! The only thing it lacks is the open world environment. I'm not a huge fan of playing a game linearly, but oh well. Still an awesome one.
