If you like grand theft auto and the old west then you will love this game. after you beat the story mode you have sidequests to do which are not that fun. The online good and decission to be a outlaw or good guy is cool andover twenty five different guns makes this game a deffinite buyer. The game gets repetitve after a while and while hunting if you die all the stuff you got from annimals is lost.

storyline 9\10

Ok...lets start of by saying that I had lost all hope in Rockstar after all the GTAs after San Andreas. The games just became repetitive...but after this game. Rockstar has won me back.

To be honest, there were almost 0 flaws in this game except for the occasional random freak glitch. The glitchs never affected the game though for me. The targeting system was slighty more player favored making it almost to east at times, but I did notice that you could change it if you so desired. The story line was great. The voice acting amazing! You really feel like you are in the story yourself. The only con, which did take away that perfect 10 is the multiplayer connection issues. It may be just me but i only was able to get in a game one the entire time I had the game. When I did play though it was very fluid and well done. Slightly confusing on what to do but very fluid. If give decimal subtractions I would just take away like (.15).

One thing I wish was added to the game...(THIS IS JUST ME BEING PICKY!)...was RPG element. It would have allowed for a more strategic approach to how someone would play the game. (This did not affect my final rating.)

This game has given me a breathe of fresh air for gaming. I was on the edge of losing confidence in games but now I have a whole new outlook on them. Very Very VERY well done!

Summary:
+ Everything is perfect
+ Storyline
+ Voice acting
+ Controls
+ Graphics

- Multiplayer Connection Issue
- 1 or 2 Tiny tiny Glitches

Rent or Buy = Buy
Final Rating = 9.85

From the first sceen you are sucked into the story line. And from then on out it never lets go. The people and animals are beleavable in every way you can think of.Nothing is left out of this game.
Game?? Did I same GAME?? I mean simulation, not game.
No matter where you want to go, if its humanly possible, you can go there. You can hunt just about any animal you want to.You can sit and camp with strangers as they tell storys of there adventures.
You can be riding to one challange and help people along the way.
OPEN RANGE should have been the name of this awesome game.
Once you play it you will see why. The online multiplayer is the best Ive ever sceen, again there is no limits to where you can go or do.
Team up with your buds or people online to take out the bad guys or each other. If you lose your horse no problem, just whistle. He will find you.No matter where on the map you left him.
Bottom line RED DEAD REDEMPTION is the best game out there today, hands down!

Game of the Year so far.....

Easily the best game of the year at this point. Gameplay is fantastic. Single player campaign is probably the best I have ever played. The graphics are amazing. You get caught up doing a variety of other things instead of completing the missions. If you don't run straight through the campaign you should easily have 30-40 hours of gameplay because the campaign has so many things to do. Dead eye reminds me a lot of VATS in Fallout 3, which is awesome because it allows you to get out of difficult situations.
I am about 90% through the campaign with almost 30 hours played only on the single player. Some things that could be better is that you end up having more money than you need, I have over 5k cash all the time because of hunting, and have nothing to spend it on really. I am disappointed than the campaign is coming to a close, it is so amazing that I decided to purchase it. I do wish that they had some sort of coop because that would only make it better.
The multiplayer is very sound, but there are some problems with it. The only way to really gain exp is to take out game hideouts which becomes boring. Can become annoying when you are trying to complete some sort of challenge or gang hideout, and another player keeps trying to kill you. There are noticable glitches that can ruin gameplay, like at hideouts where computer enemies will be glitched into walls or the ground. If you have friends to play with online is a blast. Unlockable characters, titles, and mounts help improve online play. I think they should have made games like poker, blackjack, and liar's dice available online to play against others.
Overall the game is extremely addictive, other things in single player campaign are more entertaining than the missions themselve. Highly recommend renting this game, and even purchasing this game.

The so long time anticipated game from Rockstar is finally out. I am sure many people were impatiently waiting till the date when they can grab the disc and pop it into their console. Here's what I found out and what my impressions were:

Graphics: 9 - very modern up to date and what's expected to be for a game released in 2010. Beautiful landscapes etc. The game though appears to be a bit dark at times, especially at night scenes even with the Display's contrast and brightness controls cranked all the way up.

Controls: 8 - fairly smooth "ride". It doesn't take too long to learn, a bit more complex than it should be. To be simple is the key. The Reload button is "B" not "X" as most games. NO OPTION to remap buttons or not even alternate manufacturer options.

Sound: 9 - You can hear everything. Sounds are distinct and well placed in perspective. You can control the volume of the Music or the Sound Effects only, but not the Dialog, although it hasn't been necessary so far. Some sound design elements do not match up quite right. It is still to be desired in this field in the game industry and it is still far beyond from what the film industry is.

Menus: 5 - They took a great deal of care to program all kinds of tracking records for the player in both Single and Multiplayer, but somehow they did not even consider to put QUIT GAME or EXIT in the menu!!!. You literally have only one option - abandon game by going to Dashboard. It's like pulling the plug. NO SAVE GAME. You have to be in your room and sit on your bed or make up a camp in the wilderness in order to reach the save slots. Nothing in the Pause Menu! If you fail to save and you are chasing a gang member for bounty and get killed, you'll wake up in your room and have to ride all the way back to the scene.

Overall - nice looking and sounding game, fairly smooth controls, but poor menu and level design as far as checkpoints and saving/exiting the game.

With the best plot I've seen in a long time, near perfect graphics, and great gunplay this is the best game I've played all year.

You take control of John Marston, an ex-gang member whoose family has been kidnapped by the US government and are forcing him to give them his services as a bounty hunter which lead you through a bloody campain through a ranch, a Mexican civil war, and a professor's exploits in a land he has no place in.

The great part of that is that there is a plethera of great side missions and odd people to pass you time apart from the main campain.

The controls are good for the most part. The gunplay is better than most shooters. Unfortunatly, the movement control is sub-par (as in you have to do a large circle just to turn around), but shooting while on a horse is so fun that it pretty much would have made a game by itself.

The one real drawback is the cheat codes. After beating the game I decided to put a few in, but they don't work. I did unlimited ammo, but ran out of bullets, I did invencability, but was killed and so on.

One extra thing is that you should find a newspaper salesman anytime you can, it has cheat codes(the ones that don't work, but are fun to look at), the articles have a funny take on events of the day and on you exploits as well as things about old aquantances after you part ways.

the single player is great...except for a few 3rd person view flaws (no zero radius turn around)

multiplayer is a blast...if you go to the private one with friends. the public multiplayer is annoying because people wont let you finish gang hideouts to gain xp... they just sit there and wait for you to spawn and then shotgun you from behind or snipe you.

if people would stop being jerks online (which will never happen) then the public multiplayer would be awesome.

id buy this game

Ok this is my review of a game on this site in i guess about 2 years. I never thought i start off by saying this, but im a sucker for buying this game for $60. Im a huge fan of western games, and waiting for a new game from gamefly can take forever(sorry gamefly). First thing first, this game gets BORING!!!! All i was doing the entire game was riding around on a horse. I guess I didnt learn anything from those GTA games since all i was doing was driving around in a car (im sorry but i cannot get into those games). Not only was i riding around on a horse through the whole game but im hunting animals also, that includes rabbits and skunks (are you kidding me?). I been doing more riding horses and killing usless animals than the actual fun stuff like killing people and blowing stuff up lol. The mini games are ok, like card games, go fish and horse shoes (however the controls were tough on horseshoes). Like the GTA games, this game is totally out of order. More and more icons are poppin up at the bottom left of the screen. To get to a mission it seems like you have to ride your horse to the other side of the city which feels like an hour considering its a dessert. There is one great thing to say about this game, the scenery/graphics are amazing! Very detailed. If you wanted to travel back in time and go to the old west, this game is for you. There is so much landscape in this game. However i dont play video games to rome around! Now i dont what i should do with this game. I could trade it in and get maybe $20, or i should be a true gamer and try to beat it. If i keep it, it will be a while till i play it again since Assassins Creed: Brotherhood will be coming out soon, and then Dead Space 2 (WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!). Not to mention Back opps and NHL 11. But if anybody is looking for a great western video game to play, i definitly recomend GUN!!! BEST- WESTERN-VIDEO-GAME-EVER!!!!!

GTA in The Wild West

I'm a huge fan of the GTA series so I decided to give this game a try. I will start before I review the game by saying that I'm not a "Wild West" genre gamer but as a fan of the GTA series I decided I'd try this out because I was addicted to GTA.

The graphics are pretty good. I've seen some reviews saying they are amazing but I wouldn't go that far. Graphics in the distance are great, however, up close are just what you would expect from up GTA.

I've played about 3 hours so far and the horse takes some time to get used too especially stopping (Right Bumper BTW). I ran over someone I was doing a mission for so failed that one immediately and if you're impatient and speed up the horse too much you'll get thrown off. The Horse was fun and a pain at the same time. If you haven't been to an area yet and can't "fast travel" there yet by setting up a campsite where you're at you'll have to travel there to discover it first. It seems like it takes forever to get anywhere which is a downfall. They show cars but I've yet to be able to find one or drive it (I'm assuming you never do and they probably would be as slow if not slower than the horse).

The gameplay is exactly like GTA. You'll do missions for various people and there are sidequests everywhere like picking flowers and hunting. I'm 8% of the way through and I've played for 3 hours so it appears you get a good amount of gamefly out of the game like other GTA titles.

In the end I'm impressed with the concept of the game, however, I'm not BLOWN away. It was hyped quite a bit and I don't feel it lives up to that. Yes, It's fun. What other game can you lasso a nun and put her on train tracks? The game has a lot of slow moments which kill the momentum and mood of the game.

Few games have me on the fence about whether or not I enjoy playing them. Rockstar has made me feel this way again. The only other game I've had this problem with was Dragon Age: Origins

I don't know what it is specifically but there's just something missing from this game. Maybe it's how easy you die, maybe it's the fact that water is instant death (Apparently Marston is the Wicked Witch of the West), maybe it's the fact everything is so dull, or maybe Rockstar managed to once again take the fun out of a game entirely.

This game really had potential. It looks great, the story is O.K., and the controls are spot on.

But here's where they mess up. Want to go Herding Cattle? Want to play silly card/dice/horseshoe/hand games? Want to do idiotic quests that involve picking flowers or going to point A to buy point B? Want to experience a severely empty game world?

Well if you answered Yes to any of those you forgot what video games are supposed to be. Which is Escapism.

Where's the fun guys? Tell me, does its location lie within one of the treasure chests in the game?

I usually have great taste in games, but for some reason this one let me down.

You may like it but here's a test.

Which did you like more, GTA IV or Saints Row 1 & 2?

If you said GTA IV then you're sure to have a blast being bored by this game. If you said the latter then pass up. There' no zanyness or fun to be found here.

Well this game starts out pretty good, but it does take along time to get to certain missions. And the short is that you get really bored riding to every mission and some times the missions are pointless.I didn't like when you tried to collect a bounty you really couldnt sneak up on the gang and be to secretive about it.All and all game was'nt the greatest I expected more out of it.

People say this game is like GTA meets wild west, which is kinda true but heres the difference. About 1/3 of the gameplay consists of you getting from one part of town to another which is like GTA, BUT, in GTA you have a car with music that can go fast so trips are quick. In RDR you have a horse with no music that goes slooooooow, doesn't control easily, and throws you off if you try to make it run to fast. And because about a 3rd of the game is spent going from one place to another, you spend hours riding a horse which gets boring as blank, unlike GTA where traveling is like a racing game with guns, cops, and good music. Basically this is a very slow paced RPG that they call an action adventure, because you get to shoot people and explore the wild west on a horse. If you appreciate the wild west era and the scenery, this game is for you. The graphics are good and the map is relative to the size of GTA so you'll have a lot to look at. If your into games that give you a head rush, and make you make decisions at the blink of an eye, this aint it. There's no rush in this game and even the shootouts seemed slow. But I guess in that era everything was slow, so they nailed it. Other then the graphics though this game was a bore. 6/10

It's GTA 5, let's be clear. It is overly large for it's content, and Rockstar is known for big and high quality DLC to take advantage of it. The game can seem a bit bare for it's size, but I expect that gap to be filled with DLC later.
The same complaints are still there too. The control scheme is terrible, it's worse than terrible. Saving the game advances time six hours, meaning you end up playing much of the game at odd hours or in the dark. You just can't set it to wake up at dawn like a real cowboy. The story doesn't reflect being a villain. And you may commit accidental crimes like stealing a horse next to your horse instead of mounting your own. Cut scenes between things like poker hands adds realism but slows the game, and skipping to your turn isn't much faster!
But all that pales to the visual and audio details, the sheer size of the world and various missions, races, duels, etc to keep you busy for hours.
There is a lot to do, much of it not deep or involved, but again more like a framework for later explorations of the content.
This game is worth the buy just to explore it all and try it all, but knowing Rockstar's record of great DLC, it's something you will spend alot of time on.
Remember that the complaints of this game stand out only because the game itself is so good otherwise.

Guys Guys Guys... Relax, this game isn't half as good as everybody's making it. I've always been the biggest fan of all the Grand Theft Auto's and this game is basically the same thing just back in time a bit. I played about the first three missions before I became tired of it. Tied for the best game on this site with Mass Effect 2; I would recommend Mass Effect 2 one million times over this game.

The Good

Great graphics
good plot
different

Bad

TEDIOUS
boring
riding on horses for way too long

Final verdict; If you like western themes; you'll most likely like this. If you like westerns and GTA, you'll LOVE THIS... If you like GTA but not a fan of westers, just stick to GTA it's the same thing but modern. Overall its' only for certain people, and i'm not one of them.

This game epitomizes why I have Gamefly. You get a few hours into it and realize, hey, this isn't for me. Gameplay wise, it's not horrible (except for the stupid horse - seriously, Rockstar, if you read these reviews, simplify and make the controls more intuitive to every other third-person shooters). I'm sure I could blow a lot of time into it just running around shootin' things. But the setting doesn't hold me, the voice acting doesn't hold me (especially the main guy, who sounds more like Raylen from Justified except without the wit than the Eastwood he looks like), the stupid things your "bosses" say on missions don't hold me ("Keep up there, Mr. Marsten! You done herdin' cattle already?" ten times a minute REALLY blows), the music doesn't hold me. I just got Brutal Legend, and the gameplay is more or less the same (big main quest missions, simple side missions, zapping steel porcupines if you so desire). In my opinion, though, the story, setting, banter and music (obviously) totally kick Redemption's butt, so I'm lovin' it more.

In short, if you're looking to blow some shtuff up in the wild west, this game's probably for you. If you're not into the era, I'd recommend saving it until you've run out of games you know you'll like.
