One day, after looking through my GameQ I decided that I would put something different on there. While I am used to FPS's and RPG's and RTS's, I've never played a game like Ratchet & Clank (R&C). I admit, I was rather sckeptical in the beginning, but as with life, first impressions are important. R&C had a great hook from the get-go. Even at 20 years old the humor drew me in. You really grow attatched to this "Lombax" and the Robot (My favorite).
From the start the game teaches you how to play. While most games have tutorials, R&C does not, but it does tell you along the way. The whole first mission you learn almost everything you need to know but it plays better than a tutorial. Don't be fooled by its cartoony nature however, this game is no walk in the park. Sure I may not be the best player in the world, but I would think with at least 15 years gaming experience (That's right, no life) that R&C would be a breeze. I was defiently wrong, I have died numerous times throughout my adventures. Though R&C doesn't have a penalty system like some games, it does however use save spots where you are returned to (With everything you had upon dying).
From there, the gameplay is smooth, nice story, and very entertaining. I didn't notice any glitches and was overall very impressed for my first time playing a R&C title. They say that first impressions are important, well Ratchet And Clank: Tools of Destruction made a great first impression to me, so I will go with the crowd on this one and slap a big fat (9). Hope you take the time to rent it and enjoy it yourself.
