The game tells you to jig the rod to entice the fish to bite. Do the opposite. Just stop reeling in the lure when a fish is close. The wait about 15 seconds with the lure motionless, and boom, you've caught him. Rapala is trying to sell their lures, but in the game they almost scare away the fish unless motionless.

Also, avoid the long casts. If you have to reel in a fish with more than 100 feet of line out, the fish will likely throw the hook. I guess those Rapala lures can't hold a fish.

The game was only enjoyable for about 15 minutes because my young kids got excited seeing a fish. I sent it back after one day.

not many surprises here, the controls are akward at best, graphics and gameplay are average. i've played better fishing games on the xbox and ps2. i'm a hardcore fisherman and i really can't find anything good to say about this game, exept maybe the wide selection of lures other than that, i think most gamers will be frustrated by the lack of fish. wouldn't recommend this one as a buy or rental. try fisherman's challenge instead

I've played the Wii version of the game. The graphics are much better looking in the 360 version. The controls are somewhat awkward. The sound is great! Overall - the game is boring. On a positive note - Tournament Fishing is worth playing as it the only all-fishing game available for the xbox 360. It is a welcome change of pace - in terms adding to the variety of available games for the Xbox 360.

This is dragging a boot through the water.
I have played many fishing games and there is no way a game where the fish never breaks the waters surface to fight deserves more than a 3.
You cannot see the fish at all from the top water view ever until your fisherman takes the fish upon landing.
And the fishing below water is just about as uninspiring except that you see the fish and it's non life like fighting actions.
The casting controls are horrid, lure action non existent and catching and landing fish is the more boring predictable i have ever seen in my life.
Also the boat controls are awful, no trolling motor to position your boat, almost better off just shore fishing.
And then to top it off they boast of leader boards but they are not on line, they show your off line tournament scores, that's it that's all, they don't even have a way for you to track and save your record fish.
This is an abomination of a fishing game in every way except for the graphics, the environments above and below water look great, the fish look good but when the rest of it is soo bad who cares.

but the problem is i am not a experienced fisherman and not knowing what all the lures would do in different water/weather conditions and no instructions....made it really impossible to get any fun out of the game. If you have experience this might be the game for you, if your just starting with no/little knowledge (like myself) I would say it is just frustrating and not worth the time.

Im not a big fan on fishing and hunting games(we have the outside to do that) but when my brother begged me to rent this game i said "why not". I jsut wish i would of said "no."This game did not impress me at all. Well the only thing i did like was giving the gamer something to do at the loading screens whether it is testing your knowledge or jsut catching fish was a very good idead by this game. Becuase it was the only good idea. This game did not impress me.

Granted this is a fishing game but it could have been so much more fun. I rented this because I bought a fishing game off the bargain shelf for my PS-One years ago. Me and my friends had a blast playing the game and many were not even gamers. Something about the trill of getting the fish to the boat got people hooked. Not the case with Rapala's game.

When we play a FPS cop game or a war game, we don't live through the boring stuff like buy donuts or spit shining your boots, but that seems to be the goal of the game. I got tiered of trying to find the right spot and the right bait (neither with no advice from the game) so I jumped into arcade mode. Even here I'd toss the line about 10 times with NO BITES. Come on this is "arcade mode" if you don't fall out of reality there then when. They did offer the mosquitoes.

So if you're looking of a reason to swing the left and right thumb controls followed by holding the trigger to get an annoying clicking sound then Rapala's Tournament Fishing is for you. But if you don't want to waste the time of loading a disc into your 360, find something else.

Exactly, "throw this one back" said it best.

Awful fishing controls. Will someone tell the game producers to make a choice: support retail fishing gear, or support a quality game. Just because you mix a name brand, and a last generation platform fishing game, does not make an instant hit. My brand is Blue Fox anyway.

Cool graphics, fun fish & lures, and places. I'd rather fish a city pond than play this one.

This is by far the worst excuse for an XBox 360 title to date. Don't even bother to rent it, its that bad.

First off the controls are awkward, at best. The graphics are average for the platform. Game play is extremely repetitive and objectives for advancement are not clearly outlined. This is basically an advertisement for Rapala as you are limited to only using Rapala crank baits. This game is the sort of thing I would expect to receive for free with purchase of $50 in Rapala merchandise.

Overall save your money and time, this one is worth
neither.

I suppose I shouldn't have expected much more but this game is nothing more than an ad for the various lures Rapala produces. The graphics are sub par. The sound is nothing special. The controls are terrible. I would not waste time even renting this game. I'd rather have been fishing.

First off, the graphics are outstanding. The fish are realistic looking and the lures look great. The backdrops are fantastic to look at. Sadly that's about where the good things stop. The casting controls are awkward at best and the site angles make it difficult to cast certain directions, without moving the boat.

It's been pointed out in other reviews, so I won't harp on it, but the fish never jump! Not cool. The fighting is predictable and once you figure out the proper way to hold onto a fish, it becomes mind numbing to land even the biggest flatheads.

I thought this would be a nice game to kill an afternoon with, but it falls short. I think the original xbox version is actually a better game than this one.

If you dont like fishing, dont rent the game. If you are a fisherman, this game is absolutely worth your time. Rapala Tourny Fishing has the most amount of accurate game fish and lures of any fishing game i have ever played.

The game play, a little difficult to land the 50 lb fish at first is great as far as a fishing game goes. The audio and FX both rank high among games of this genre.

The only thing this game is lacking is the replay value, the repetition of casting and casting gets boring in the long run but like i said up top, as a rental this game is absolutely worth your time.

You would probably get more satisfaction from it. This game is a poorly executed attempt to capitalize on the niche market that is fishing video games. This genre could use a detailed and well planned game that recreates (or simulates) real-world fishing. This game does nothing even remotely close, in fact, you are hard pressed to believe you are fishing it's so mind numbingly boring and lacking of any visual flair.

The graphics are adequate, but again, nothing to be excited about. The gameplay is dull and repetitive.

If your a fan of fishing, save your money and put it on your real-world gear. This fish isn't biting, its dead.

Really Bad

What a Grind

This game is ok, but gets to be a real grind if you are going for the achievement points. Then you find out that 280 of the 1000 points are glitched and unattainable with no patch to fix it on the horizon. That's just unforgivable.

Shame on you Activision.

This game is great, driving the boat is awesome, The pike look realistic and so do the walleye. Great game 10 out of 10 just like Rapala Fishing Frenzy

I didn't like this game at all.. It was boring.. I liked Rapala Fishing Frenzy 2009, so I thought that I would like this one. The controls were very awkward, like everyone else has mentioned. It took me longer to figure out how to cast than I actually played. Don't rent this game.. It is a total waste of time and energy.

This is probably the worst game i have ever had the displeasure to play. The graphics were worse than super Mario. So many registry errors occurred, that the game was nearly unplayable. The game would randomly disqualify me for no reason. The only good thing that came out of me playing the game was that i randomly received two achievements for two things that i never did anything close to. I'm honestly surprised my xbox didn't reject the game for too much failure.

Ok, a crude attempt to bring fishin' home when you can't get out and do the real thing...
This game is simply boring--end of story.
The jazzy music during the fishing is hypnotic and the overall gameplay is enough to put me to sleep. The idea was cool, but the execution just doesn't cut it.

Very glitchy game. I rented for achievements, and to try a fishing game, but it quickly lost its appeal. After about 2 hours, you get frustrated at the poor quality of game play. The tackle absolutely does not matter, presentation doesn't matter, and you are able to catch 90lb fish on ultra light gear with 4lb test line. Hopefully, 2009 is better.
