I'm a shooter fan, so I enjoyed this game. It's hard to beat a dark-matter gun, and a four-round rocket launcher is a nice change from the standard one or two. Never mind the gameplay is repetitive and the vehicle sections are contrived. Quake 4 is not a thinking game, it's a shoot-things-a-lot game. The real difficulty comes in the form of a couple specific rooms where you're locked in and the only way out is killing everything, but you're under-armed and overwhelmed. If you're a fan of the series, though, getting to play the original Quake II has some value.
Quake 4 is a decent first-person shooter that may go over-looked by those starving for next generation graphics and that one killer app for their new system. Don’t make this mistake - it has everything you’ll want from a shooter from variety of weapons (my favorite being the dark matter gun), good boss battles, online play, and it takes a fair amount of time to beat It (about 5-7 hours). Plus, it comes with a complete version of Quake II. Bottom line: if you liked Doom 3 on the Xbox you’ll love this game.
