...at least I think so. My friends and I play each other in split-screen mode on my Xbox. It is absolutely the most fun I've had with my console, and I own around 45 different games. My friends have bought Xboxes based on the strength of this game alone. I've tried other racing games, but always come back to PGR2. I suppose PGR3 on the 360 will one day eclipse this title, but for now, I'm sticking with it. It absolutely rocks. If you're an older gamer with some friends who used to play Pole Position with you in the local arcade (or even older games), turn them on to this. You won't be disappointed.

It's 2013 and I still have the fondest memories of this game. I no longer have an xbox, but if I did, I'd be all over this game. No racing game I played before it or since measures up to the amount of fun I had playing this game.
It's been a very long time, but I can't say that I ever remembered anything bad about this game. Not to say that there weren't bad things, but they certainly did not overly effect the gameplay. I beat this game into the ground. I do remember serious frustration on some of the races, but the joy of beating it after all that frustration is perfectly priceless and also memorable and part of playing a game, dare I say.
I never played PGR, but PGR3 was an incredible disappointment after this one. PGR4 seems to have gone back to the roots of PGR2 to a certain degree, but they don't make racing games like this anymore. Forza might be considered an exception, but Forza is more simulation and customization. PGR is straight arcade style. It's the basic idea of starting with a junk car and working your way up, giving you that sense of accomplishment.
If you want to go a little old school and see the greatness of yesteryear, I would highly recommend this title.

Ok First off I really Liked the game, everything that is But the way they have Programed the cars you race against. Biggest Problem is they obviously have Programers that Have Never riden in let alone driven a car. When it rains on a street unless the Street is completely covered in Oil you have traction you actually can stop a car and why make the Ai Cars so Stupid? I mean it dont take a rocket scientist to figure out that if theres a car beside your car you cant be where the other car is no way it just isnt possible, But to the Idiots that Program Racing games They just dont understand that and continue to make Racing games that are supposed to be Simulation but shouodnt be called that Because they forget about such things a gravity and many Simple facts of Physics Like to Objects cant Occoupy the exact same place at the exact same time. I give the game a 7 but the Idiots that call themselves Programers get a Big Negative 100 For being idiots
