It seems like the norm for Wii sports game is to do the following: take last year’s version and make the needed roster changes to make this year’s version. I’ve seen this done in Madden, in MLB and now in Pro Evolution Soccer.
It doesn’t mean that this game is bad – I enjoyed going through the paces of an average match (passing, defending, shooting). The control work well – but it may take a bit of time to get used to it. There’s a tutorial included to help out first time users.
But this game doesn’t evolve much from last year’s version – you can make your soccer team full of Mii characters.
Everything else about the game is the same – from the commentary to the game play to the celebrations of the goals scored to the graphics (graphics during the match is not good). Purist will like the fact that scoring goals takes precise passing in order to get the ball in the right spot so the player can run through it, past the defenders, then rip a shot past the goalie.
If you’re into soccer, you should give this Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 a try. But there are a few other soccer games available for your soccer fix – and this game isn’t inventive enough for me to hand out money for. RENT IT.
