If you don't mind actually having to think during the game and don't mind it having pictures instead of what we are used to from our modern gaming, then you should give the game a shot. I loved how you could board enemy ships and take them as your own and you could also capture cities and set up resource productions to make you extra money to maintain your fleets, which was actually challenging. If you weren't making enough money you could always plunder convoys for resources to sell but you wont make nearly as much money as you would if you just went ahead and plundered a city.
Sadly the game did not allow for you to completely eliminate and country from your map which was very disappointing because I wanted it to be just be me and England one on one but always had Holland getting in the way.
When planning a trade route make sure you are going to cities that need what other cities have or you can just send them to the major cities, make sure to put armed/manned combat ships with your trade convoys because they will get sunk more than you think.
All and all I gave this game 7/10 as it keep me entertained but there are room for improvements on it. I think its worth a try for those of you thinking of adding it to your Q.
The game is great if you like the type, I was a fan of the old Sid Meyer's Pirates! And this game is simply put a better version of that. The economy aspect, trading and building production and manufacturing buildings, even buying towns, is a great touch to the basic pirating features. This game isn't for everyone, and it can get a bit repetitve, but it's certainly not worth a 1, or anything less than a 5. Those who say this game is horrible simply didnt appreciate it for what it is. And sure, it could be better, but as it is it's a good game nonetheless.
the game started off being entertaining but lost alot of its fun factor after a few hours. The trading aspect was not as well thought out as one would have hoped. The battles hold small value and leave you wanting more in terms of action. I give it a five out of ten because it has alot to offer a player if they really enjoy tweaking their trades to the max but has little to nothing to offer for the side of adventuring.
