Pool Hall Pro is the ultimate in no thrills pool playing experience.
The Game Modes are what most of you would expect: An Single Player Arcade Mode, a Single Player Tournament Mode, and Multiplayer. It looks bland.
When you create a player, you can adjust the looks of the avatar to your taste - but only guys compete in this league. (Why?)
The games you get here are vast - 3 types of Snooker, 2 types of 8 ball, basic billards, pub pool, 6 ball, 9 ball, 10 ball and 15 ball.
In the Arcade Mode, you start off with two unlocked Pool Halls. If you beat the opponent in an unlocked Hall, another Pool Hall is unlocked, and you get things for your Crib (more on that later). And you repeat the process.
In the Tournament Mode, you play in either a round robin or single elemination tournament. If you win, you get a trophy. You can also get trophies for wins in a row and other feats.
In Multiplayer you play one on one against one opponent or you can have a tournament of up to four players play in either a round robin or single elimation mode.
The game also gives you a home for your avatar which you can accesorise with plants, TVs, different walls, doors, windows, and table types. You start off with a limited number of things to add to your Crib, but with each different Hall you win in (in Arcade Mode) you get more items to accesorise your pool room with.
So, how does it handle? Well, the controls work well, even if you have to take the time to spin the camera about to line up the right shot.
It's also a relief that you don't have to nominate any balls, and pocket nomation is easy - point and click to the pocket you need to nominate in the overhead view.
The AI is unpredicable; in an 8 Ball game, the AI was Stripes, pocketed the last three stripes perfectly and had a great shot on the 8 Ball.
It pocketed the 8 Ball, but it also scratched and lost the game. Whoops.
Still, this is one game I say rent and play with friends, and a possible buy at only $30
The game jumped like you were shakeing when you didnt move. It was had to go from getting ready to shot and then be able to shoot.for a new game it was bad we have tried all three that this site has and its the worst one
Occassionally during muti-player mode, the game wouldn't allow the cue to make a shot. I tried everything that might have been due to actual playing of the game but I'm pretty sure that it's a bug in the game. Other than that problem causing us to have a game interrupted and lost, it's a great pool game. Aiming, angling and shooting are pretty close to actual live pool. I think that's pretty good considering this is just a video game. A bit sexist considering all the players are guys...no girls!
