Greasebeard the robotic pirate goes on a rampage due to bad programming, and it is up to the player(s) to stop him in Pirate Blast.
Unfortunately, this game goes on a bland streak due to bad programming and design.
Pirate Blast is your average on rails shooter - wait, it’s not even as good as your average on rail shooter.
In your average rail shooter, you get different guns and explosive devices to dispatch your enemies with. But in this game, you only get a water gun that squirts out a steady stream of water and a bunch of grenade type water bombs.
There’s no shotgun, machine gun, sniper rifle, throwing daggers or any other type of firearms here. Nope, just the one water gun and water bombs.
With that limited arms, all you can do is spray the bad robots with the gun, deflect their attack (they throw or shoot food at you) or hit as many as you can with a water bomb. This game can get very dull very quickly.
Along the way, you can pull a plug on a boat, collect items, or free captive good guys by holding down the A and B buttons and aiming for the plug, the lock on a cage, or the item to collect.
But the targeting system is so bad that it will take several tries just to get a chance to collect the item, save the good guy or pull a plug.
It takes about an hour to get through each of the eight levels. But here’s the twist - to actually finish the story, you have to go through every one of these eight levels a total of four times.
Is there something new and exciting with each subsequent journey? Nope. It’s just the same bland gameplay as the previous trip, only more difficult. By this point, I’m ready to bail out rather than go through the tired routine a second, third or fourth time.
But wait - there’s more - headaches. This game has three unlockable minigames that - are just as uninspired as the main game.
Even with two player co op play, Pirate Blast is a rail shooter with very little imagination or fun in it. SKIP IT.
