Hated it hated it hated it. I didn't like the game play set up, didn't like the controls, and it was very confusing.

I am baffled that there are people that gave this game anymore than a 1.

It is horrendous! The tutorial went on forever but the story and characters are awful. I really tried to play the game as a friend recommended it but I could not get it out of my PSP fast enough.

Unless you are a fan of the Phantasy Star series don't even think about getting this game.

So imagine having all the cool person-on-person interaction of Phantasy Star Universe in the palm of your hand. Cool, right? Wrong. Or at least as Sonic Team is concerned. They managed to lift the lion's share of the interface functions (Menu music, appearance, etc.) from PSU, but aside from the combat itself (Not its most shining aspect...) they stripped the game down to a shallow dungeon crawler with text bubbles and voice overs as your only reward for suffering through the levels.
Wandering around and exploring even when you're not fighting is integral to what makes PSU and Phantasy star in general totally awesome. In this case, however, you don't explore. Instead you move a cursor over an environment and select people represented by small markers to talk to them. The only time you'll see yourself moving your character is when you jump into a dungeon. Basically, they stripped all the incentive to play PSU out of the game and then added some freaky rabbit CAST partner to help out in combat and flushed the entirety of the game down the drain. Granted, you can partner up wirelessly with other PSP owners, but while, local parties are okay, gutting a good game and presenting its empty carcass as a new game is a bad business.
I love PSU and even I will be the first to admit that the combat and visuals are sub-par, this is all that this PS installment has decided to acquire. That the DS is getting a brand new PS game that can actually maintain a party over local wifi or even the internet is insulting. Giving the PSP PSUs rotten leftovers is a pathetic cop out and having a DS game release as part of the same announcement is a slap in the face. If this went online the PSP would easily have begun a renaissance that might save it in the USA, but as usual sony and Sega drop the ball. If you'll excuse me, I need to go play Mariokart with people all over the world from my DS and then fight in custom robo and talk to my opponent over my DS. Thanks for nothing Sonic team.
