"Persona 3" was awesome, but "Persona 4" improves on the formula in just about every conceivable way. While this game follows a path very similar to that of its predecessor, the developers ironed out a lot of kinks and imperfections, and many gameplay elements have been refined and improved. There's a lot more to do in the way of leveling up your Social Links and raising your stats, and the unique dungeons are much more interesting than the single huge dungeon in "Persona 3". Shopping for new weapons and armor is now much less expensive, and determining the stock yourself by selling the shopkeeper raw materials is a nice touch. Also, this time you are given the option of controlling each member of your party individually in battle, which comes in especially handy against the bosses, who are much, much tougher than those in "Persona 3".
And of course, as was the case with "Persona 3", the story is engrossing and filled with surprises and emotional moments, and the cast of characters is supremely likable, endearing, and even downright adorable at times.
I don't know why game developers think more dialog is better, no matter how inane it is. Fortunately my friends in the real world have more interesting stuff to say, or else they wouldn't be my friends. The dialog on this game is endless, and it is not possible to page through it except one screen at a time.
The game froze several times (more paging through boring dialog, this time dialog I had already heard). It took me a couple of hours to get to the first battle, what with all the dialog and freezing. Finally I gave up. The fighting engine seemed interesting, but the game just didn't work.
BTW there is a fair amount of profanity in the dialog. That doesn't bother me, but it strikes a false note in a game aimed at a younger crowd.

I have to admit, I was psyched when I found out about Persona 4. The previous one was one of the best games I've ever played, so of course I had to give this one a go. It was just as good as 3, I suppose. There was a lot more humor, but the game-play was soooo much easier... That was bothersome. I got my friends addicted to Persona 4 and when I started making them play 3, they just kept dying. That's the only downside to this game; it's too easy!
