I almost returned this game after 10min of play but I decided to give it a chance and play a few levels. I 'm glad I did because this game gets better with each level. Game play is fast, the weapons fun to use, and the enemies and bosses are pretty unique and memorable.

I didn't know what to expect from Painkiller as I have never seen it in action until my recent rental from Gamefly. All I could gather from this game was from other reviews crafted from players, publications, and message boards. Having been a huge fan of Doom 3 and the theme of demonic forces, I was really interested to see what Painkiller had to offer. I was incredibly let down. I will say that the weapon choices were very uniquely designed in both style and play. But this highlight fell short due to the repetitive and, quite frankly, boring gameplay. The story line had potential but I felt that there could have been more substance and depth with the plot. It's truly bad for me as a gamer to be sitting there playing a game thinking "God I hope this level ends quick". To be fair to Painkiller, the graphics weren't horrible. I did like the lighting effects in open spaces and halls. The mist/fog effect in graveyards and open fields where very well done. The character models could have used more work and tweaking. I wish the characters had more fluid motion than just coasting towards you or sprinting. I liked Doom 3 for this as you didn't really know where your enemy came from. Painkiller simply just gave you the enemy and set the mood for "what you see is what you get". Overall, this is a rental. I would not shell out money for this and am glad that I rented first before making an impulsive purchase.
This game is nothing more than a poor man doom. The game is horrible configured to the monsters at hand. The guns dont make much sense and the tarot cards are hard to use. The final boss is a joke. If anyone figures out how to beat him then bravo cuz it is near impossible even with a guide. Xbox dropped the ball on a great PC shooter that should have been a great xbox one as well. They jumbles together the 3 painkiller PC games and it doesnt work. Save urself the trouble and pick up the Painkiller black Pc collecting to play this game how it was meant to be played.
