I have been playing this game pretty much non-stop since receiving it in the mail, and with good reason, its FUN. There have been a deluge of mediocre games coming out for the 360, most of which are movie based, and therefor terrible. Along comes Overlord, and reeking havoc has rarely been such a blast. Its a tongue-in-cheek look at Lord Of The Rings, from Sauron's point of view. You have been overthrown by the human/halfling plague and are set out to destroy all those in your path. The more of a jerk you are, the better you do. Game play is similar to Fable, without being as cute, you are only punished if you do good by people. This is a great way to work out your frustrations of the day, without have to play yet another FPS. Highly recommend to anyone looking to play a game for more than a week.
I like to play games and not spoil them by looking up walkthroughs and such. So trying to get 100% pure evil and not knowing how to get all of their "evil deeds" done is just lame. I gave the game and 8 and if there were more evil deeds to be done that could make up for not killing 500 or 1,000 pesants before you beat the game then it would have been a 9. Fix your game... that was just dumb.
Let me start by saying if you are a fan of rpgs or evil, this game is definitely for you. It is a very well made game with great graphics, a passable story line, and unique/fun game play. There are a variety of strange creatures you encounter along the way. and a variety of strange ways to dispatch of them. There are really only two things i've seen that could be improved on. One is the fact that your overlord is not very customizable, you can only alter his equipment.. there is no leveling up or stat management beyond what you can do with his equipment. That isn't really a problem, just an annoyance. The thing that really seems to hold this game back is its funky camera. The auto-camera is poor at best, and the controls to use the camera manually take some getting used to. And even once your fairly good at it, it will take valuable seconds to work it, extremely valuable seconds in multiplayer. Also, on the subject of multiplayer, this could have been really fun except that its only 2 players, and whoever is losing usually doesn't finish the game, its 10 minute rounds for ranked, so i can see why they give up. Despite its few flaws it is a supremely enjoyable game and i recommend it to anyone who likes video games, but especially people who like evil! :)
