After a drought of awful games, Overlord: Minions turns that bad streak around, big-time, with a wonderful 10. The RPG strategy adventure is unique, fun and very original in a creepy sense.
Overlord: Minions is an original DS game, the first in the franchise for DS (there have been past Overlord games for PS3/Xbox 360). I could see how this could make a wonderful animated movie with a lot of dark humor like Igor, among recent examples.
In the game you play as minions for an evil ruler of the magical land of Overlord. While walking around may seem boring, there are some great ideas. For instance, each minion has a different colored skin, and different colored skin minions can do different things. Like a red-skinned minion can walk through fire with out being hurt. And a blue minion can swim in water without drowning.
You can pick as many minions as you want, and you can swap 'em in and out (even if one is killed in combat) when you need them for different tasks. You can also order them to the same place altogether like a minature army.
The game puts darkly grim twists on some of the fairy tales, and it's loaded with dark humor (on par with Lemony Snicket), which just makes the game a chillingly funny adventure.
The game will leave you excited for more. The graphics aren't great, but other than that flaw, there's nothing else negative to say about Overlord: Minions.
Overlord: Minions is a wonderfully creative, darkly funny, fairy-tale themed game where it's fun to play as the bad guy. Deliciously evil, humorous, unique and visually-striking, Overlord: Minions is easily the summer's, and most likely the year's, best DS game. Definetely a purchase for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Don't miss it!)
