I was pretty surprised to find myself playing this game after two hours slipped by, feeling pretty hooked. I had very low expectations for Out Run 2006 Cost 2 Coast for the PSP, and thought it would be just another lame game probably worse than Pursuit Force. But Out Run, is a very solid, racing game. Based entirely on Ferrari's the game remains true to its oldy but goody game style, play and mechanics. you race around coasts, mountains, deserts, and well coast to coast, in a effort to beat rivals, and or impress your very fickle digital girlfriend. She yells commands at you often contradicting her last, such as: "Hit the cars!" Then... "Don't Crash!" And if you don't do what she demands, and do it well, she utters insolent remarks like: "Are you kidding me?"
It has it's moments of fun, but I really wanted to see her fly out of the car when I finally had enough and crashed on purpose. No she clings on so too tight and cannot be thrown. at least not until she is completely disgusted by your performance, on the road that is.
The longer you race, the more miles you accumulate and those can be turned in to buy more Ferrari's, tracks, goals, and colors for your collection of cars. There is nothing very new here, but is some good old fashioned arcade style racing, with music so bad, it is actually funny. Add to that some responsive controls, nice sparkling eye candy graphics, and a silly concept of driving to impress a girl all hold together a good handheld racer.
