Not for run and gun kids

Best shooter ever. Period! I rented it, best it, then I bought it. First time I have ever done that. It's that good and it's a keeper. Very realistic. Try it you'll like it. But get ready to be shot.

They said this game is like actually being in the frontlines. Well they werent kidding. I wouldnt last more than about 5 hours in the real war. Just as other reviews state, if you are a run and gunner FPS player then dont think about picking this game up. If you start running out in the open getting to your checkpoints in a hurry, you will be shot. And most of the time it may only take one bullet to kill you. Not several.

The game has amazing graphics, great game play and alot of weopons to your arsenal. I myself was not into the game that much in the beginning, because it wasnt a constant action shooter. Like Left 4 Dead, Call Of Duty, Gears of War ect. Some parts of the game you have to litterally take your time moving and planning out your attack on the enemy. Your sniper shots will have to be almost flawless, but as in real life your not going to hold a rifle steady. So your crosshairs will be moving back and forth on your target, which makes this very realistic and you must be patient. After about 2 hours of playing I was very well into it. I had my surround sound on my 64" HDTV and it was a very nice game experience.

The only thing I do not like is giving the orders to your other soldiers. Thats why I never really got into any of the Tom Clancey games. The reason I don't like it, is because your biggest worry is getting shot. Sometimes you can take a few hits, and it shows on your "body meter" on the bottom of the screen, but most of the time you will be shot and killed almost instantly. But seeing yourself dead in the game is actually pretty cool. Let me explain. It was a night mission and I was picking off riflemen about 300 meters in a bunker. They didnt know were I was and I was loving it. All of a sudden a gunship came out of the NW and dropped some type of bomb on me and killed me. As the camera slowly pulled away from my soldiers lifeless body, my eyes were still open, blood everywhere and I had no legs.

Good game, and a good challenge.

Excellent

Great game; Coming from a COD MW perspective

Let me begin: OFDR != COD. MW.

OFDR is currently as close to combat simulation as any game I have played. You don't have health regeneration, One good shot to the head and you start from the last checkpoint, which can be frustrating. This game requires you to think strategically. If you want a game where you are going to just run-and-gun, this is NOT the game for you.

Here is some of the better points of OFDR:
- Most missions allow you to call in an airstrike or howitzer fire, each of which you can specify how they are implemented (i.e. tight or spread out)
- You command your fireteam through orders such as suppressing fire on a building, flank left or right, move up to a specific coordinate, etc.
- The enemy has the same health regeneration you have ( unless you can get a medic to come to your aid, you will bleed out)
- Your fireteam normally spots enemies before they have a chance to fire at you

There were only a few things I found disturbing:
- Reloading your weapon, once initiaited, cannot be stopped and you cannot go prone once you hit the 'X' button, leaving you vulnerable if you didn't lie down before reloading
- The enemy AI seems to be alot more accurate than you (they can hit you even if you are a mile away)

All-in-all this is a very good game if you have the patience to endure the real-life effect this game has. Most people say that if you are a COD player, OFDR won't appeal to you, but I beg to differ. Sometimes I cannot put the controller down.

Here's my ratings on the other stuff:
Audio: 9/10 (sounds like you are taking real commands on a real battlefield
Graphics: 7.5/10 (not the best looking game, but it doesn't detract from the game at all)
Controls: 8/10(the weapon menu when trying to change weapons in a hurry kinda sucks)
