The sheer joy and creativity that was in the Original El Mariachi is long gone. Replaced by flaccid focus group icons, fading stars and a plot that, to quote Amadeus, has too many notes, most of which are flat. Just as in Sharkboy and Lavagirl, I wonder if the script was really written by a 10 year old.
Johnny Depp adds a bit a Pirate's like flair, but to real end. Movies like this are why the UMD format is coming to a premature end. Though charging $20, 30 and even $40(!) for a movie I can buy as a DVD for $7-10 is more than likley a bigger reason.
