Sorry to all of you Ninja Gaiden fans out there but this one was lacking big time. I love the ninja gaiden soga, and I was super excited to get my hands on this game "AT FIRST!!!" Anyway, first the good. The few reasons that I didn't give this game a 1rating are this. I love the new darker look and all the bloody gory slicing. I like the fact that they had him take his mask off for the first time in the game. The story line was even pretty good..... but now the bad. I felt the game was way too short, I miss the different types of nimpo and weapons and the way you upgrade them. I like being able to buy health, magic and even playing as a different character for part of the game. It just didn't live up to my expectations and I'm a huge ninja gaiden fan. Thank God for gamefly. I would have been very upset if I would have spent $60.00 on this game so I give it a generous 5 out of 10.
I never thought the word "suck" and "Ninja Gaiden" be used in the same sentence. All the fighting mechanics that define the original Ninja Gaiden are all stripped away and replaced with outrageous over the top button mashing that is guaranteed to make you dizzy. Although I've beaten the original Ninja Gaiden Sigma over 10 times in various difficulties and played all the missions, I couldn't play this abomination for more than an hour. Team ninja truly did a disservice to all the fans and really highlight how bad a game can become without its original creator, Tomonobu Itagaki.
This game played like a glorified action hallway. You start out in the streets and you kill everything... then you move down the street and kill everything... then you hop over a building and kill everything... and this goes on and on. And you may be thinking "but that is what you always do in Ninja Gaiden!", but this one is different. It's extremely repetitive with zero to nil on the adventure side of it. You have no control over where you go or how you go... it's just a straight shot, and you can't advance from each little "encounter" until you kill the massive hoardes of enemies that come at you every room or so. And the combat really isn't that gratifying, as most of it is just completely out of your control. Ryu will just go into a killing graphic where you have no control over anything, so you hit square 3 times then Ryu will hit them 12 times in a cool (the first time you see it, and just time consuming by the 1000th time). Compared to the other Ninja gaidens I found this one to be lacking majorly on the adventure aspect as the whole game feels like you're just playing "Survivor" mode. It just throws the same enemies at you repeatedly until you finally die.
