It was terrible, im no rpg noob but i seem to have a real harf time playing square enix games without quitting for boredom.
i rented it and spent 5 hours talking to uninteresting npcs trying to figure out how the story made sense and killing sheep/bandits.
the only fun i had was rolling around stalking animals.

I rarely give a game a 1, but this one earned it. The graphics weren't spectacular, but I didn't really mind. The fighting wasn't too difficult or annoying, and for the most part it was enjoyable. The story line was ok, and interesting enough I would have liked to have seen more of it...but then came the fishing. You need a part of a particular kind of fish as a pain reliever for the main characters daughter. They guy you go talk to says he can catch them without problem, but no...you can't buy one, here is a fishing pole and lure. Catch it yourself.
30 minutes later, I took the game out, stuck it back into the sleeve, and it goes in the mail tomorrow to be returned. 30 minutes of trying to catch a dumb fish and I never even came close. Each time it kept telling me what I'm supposed to do, although, that's what I thought I was doing. I just wish that game developers would take a hint from some of the other major rpg's out there and make such side annoyances an optional part of the game, not a mandatory one.
So, because I couldn't catch one fish in 30 minutes, and my level of frustration reached so high a point I no longer wanted to play it at all: it gets a 1.
If you don't like finicky ridiculously hard mandatory fishing to ruin your game, you might consider skipping this one. If you like wasting hours trying...the rest of the game I played wasn't too bad.
