My kids are 3 and 5 they are big nick jr. fans so this seemed like the perfect game to try out.
I popped the game in and the kids loved it right away. There was an instructional portion at the beginning of the game which taught them how to use the menus. It was effective because my kids figured it out right away. My 5 year old was able to navigate the game with ease.
The dance moves were fairly easy for a young child, but there were a few challenging moves too. The scoring system was easy for a child to understand. Also the game seemed to score the children very fairly considering their age. My 3 yr old was trying very hard, but not getting it right. It gave him 2 gold stars. My 5 nailed it so she got 3 gold stars. The game was very encouraging for both of them.
I read on a game review on a different site that some people didn't like to hear the constant coaching from Dora. It is annoying to hear, but then again the hole game sounds a little annoying. I've had the Aulete song stuck in my head all day. Two things to note though... you can turn off the coaching, but for a small child it's a great idea. Saves me from telling them 300 times to move right or move back.... I don't mind at all.
Overall, this game is great because the kids can play it by themselves. They don't need me to hover over them and help them do the whole thing.
The only thing that I didn't like about the game wasn't really the games fault. My children got tired of playing the game a little sooner than I had hoped. They also fought a lot about who got to be what color. The players can either be purple or blue. I don't know if you can change it or not, but if you have two boys, they may not want to be the purple player. Or maybe they both want to be blue.
