What a let down...

Need for Speed Shift was a major let down, yeah it was fun but it's features didn't pop out at me like Pro Street did. Customization was at a minimum and cars were limited all in all it was ok...

I absolutely loved this game till about 20-30% through the Career Mode. At that point things begin to become very redundant. you feel as though you are just mindlessly going from one race to the next with no real reward but more stars then u possibly need, driver levels and medals. by 30% into the career you should already have enough stars to unlock everything and more money then you can possibly need and since there's an obvious "best car per tier" its a clear cut choice what car to pick then dump about 350k of the 10+mil you have to max it out and do another round of races. but leading up to the 30% mark Shift is a ride like no other. Physics, Graphics, Sound and Realism is beyond anyone's expectations. the races are fun and challenging, anxiously awaiting getting that next tier lvl car and upgrades. Alot of people say Forza and Gran Turismo are way better. Shift isnt supposed to be like those titles. Shift is a great change of pace from the cops and robbers theme which to me is long dated. If it wasnt for the fact you max out all your cars way way way to early into the game and the art of making money to afford upgrades from start to finish was more present then i would definitely rate this game higher.

The day I go back to Forza and GT is the day they will change their names to NFS Shift.

This game is truly amazing, Graphics are beautiful, Racing is actually exilerating and you actually want to race! yes i said it, you actually want to do a race its not like in Forza or GT where your like " uhg, another race..." and you hire a driver cuz you feel like it. no, this game you actually want to race, i raced so many different maps i didnt even pay attention to the money i made or how much i leveled up.

They also made this thing where depending on how you drive it will rate you on whether your a Perfect driver or an aggressive driver. if you slam into cars to make them spin out your aggressive, if you overtake cars clean without trading paint your a perfectionist.

You can customize cars from engine and nitrous to body kits and liveries.
They have modern day cars as well as older cars from 2000 and 90's and they also have classics. Forza and GT pride themselves on having tons of cars - most of those cars you race once and its pointless also no customizing.

This game has replaced my personal favorite Racing Simulators.
Its just amazing, the helmet cam is gorgeous, did i mention i actually want to RACE!!!!! If your being skeptical and saying " hmm i dont know i kinda like forza or gt...." rent this game out! what do you have to lose other than your pride for those other games.

9 out of 10 because no games are "perfect". but 9 is as close as they will get.

I've always loved Need for Speed games my personal favorite was Need for Speed Most Wanted though but not a big fan of the Shifts mostly because i like the free roam more then the racing provided in this game. Not that great of a game in my opinion But ill give it...

3 out of 5 Racing points.

its a great racing game that looks amazing but the cars themselves feel so very light, theyre racing 2-3 ton cars, they should not fly in the air so easily. drifting is easier to do in real life than in the game. i found multiplayer fun though. although once a car is maxed out the out come of the races are always even since the cars are too. its good but ill stay with forza3

This game definately is the best when it comes to the "inside-the-car" look. It does an excellent way in creating the feeling that you are in the car. You lean back in seat while going fast, shake when you hit a wall, lean foward while braking, and on hard hits your guy kinda blacks out a bit. Great racing game.

Need For Speed: Shift

All in all this game is great, the only thing I find wrong with the game is that there isn't enough customization (body kits, spoilers, exhaust tips, hoods, etc.) with the cars, the only thing you really have control over is the rims and paint. Unlike NFS ProStreet where you can basically change everything on your car, NFS Shift does it all for you in one package basically. I was looking forward to complete customization. Sadly it's already done for you, all you need to do is buy it but if you don't really care for customization as much as I do and you just want to supe it up and race it then this game is for you.

Good Graphics - Twitchy Controls

posted by GmrGirl (LYNNWOOD, WA) Oct 31, 2010

The game is good, just not what I wanted in a racing game.

Graphics - Beautiful. The scenery is detailed and nice. It doesn't take away from the game play but at the same time if you have people watching you play, it's pretty for them too.

Gameplay - A few of the "consequences" for actions are a little over the top and it's a bit hard to tell when you hit the trigger point. Sometimes you can tap a car and get it out of your way. Other times if you tap a car, it's going to go flying over your roof/hood.

Controls - Twitchy. It's far to easy to over correct the steering. I'm sure this was to make the cars responsive. What it did was make the game annoying.

to be fair, I played this game after playing Forza and I really enjoy those controls. That likely colored my impression of these controls.

This game was great for a rent. I played it for several days and never got bored with it. There are many realistic upgrades that you can do to the cars that actualy make a difference. I would recomend this game for a rent but not a buy.

After playing all the NFS games, i'd have to say that Shift is arguably the best one yet. It has high replay value, the graphics are nothing short of amazing, overall gameplay was as realistic as it gets for things like handling and the effect when you're going at really high speeds. Although there are some things i wish they had done differently (which pretty much any game has it's flaws) it still doesn't take away from the experience.
The one thing i would add is pre-race tuning, kinda like how Forza had it, where you could adjust the tuning relevant to the track right before you begin a race; i.e. adjusting balance, downforce, gearing, and what not. Also i didn't get why vinyls and decal were not available to put on hoods. Then again i could nit pick all day so i'll stop.

Overall i highly recommend atleast renting it. Enjoy

Worst Driving Sim

posted by duhJeenyus (STOCKTON, CA) Oct 17, 2010

I have given this game it's fair shot. It was lack luster in terms of presentation since I booted up the disc. The menus were too simple, there was no flair to the menu at all. Once in the game in Career mode, I found the British guy to be annoying. I'm sorry but I don't know you, random voice over guy, don't call me mate. As far as immersion goes, I think that was a fail.

Once I started racing things got even worse. I've played with a steering wheel and with a controller and I found both to be inadequate to control my car. Cornering was way too hard, at high speed it was way too easy to oversteer. Much to my surprise I found out there is a way to adjust the driving controls in the main menu, but not in a race. I have never heard of a racing sim with driving adjustment options. That's the point of a simulation racing game is to use your abilities and skills to tune a car with the right parts and adapt to the game engine. Mega fail.

Lastly, my issues with the AI were mind boggling. I played through for about three hours and on Easy. The AI was dumb as a rock and I was easily able to out race them. Then I started the Invitational races where I had to pick from one horrible car (just personal preference, not an actual gripe against the game) or another horrible car. Picking the least horrible of the two I lost the first round of the car battle because by that time I had tuned out that British fool and wasn't listening to the objective of the race. So I started over and found out that no matter which car I picked, the AI had super grip tires and could fly around corners at 80MPH while I had to slow down and eventually lose. I tried Car Battle which was exactly the same but with different cars and had the same result. Super Omega Guantanamo Fail.

They should have left out the "F" in Shift and called it what it is.

NFS: Shift worse game of the year award

I put this game in for the first race and all i have to say is where are the realistic physics engines i'm used to in Forza Motorsport, since they stole everything else from it. This game is by far a not worth playing kind. If you play this and like it before you actually drive a real car then don't get your drivers license. Seriously I used to play NFS titles all the time, but after this I'm officially done with the franchise. For all of you who like it then it's too bad you never got Forza.

Ok, I have played many a NFS game in my day but this was by far not what I expected... I expected NFS: Shift to be a Forza-ish sim racer. Ladies and gentlemen, I regret to inform you that it is not.

Everytime you take a turn, or are even making the slightest adjustment to your direction to line up correctly for the next turn, the car's rear end slides as if you were racing on a dirt track... This leaves you spending most of the race swerving back and forth across the track trying to keep it together. I even gave the game the benefit of the doubt in the beginning and blamed it on the clunker starter cars but now that I have entered higher class racing and started to use better cars the same problem occurs.

In Forza you are penalized for bumping into other cars, in NFS: Shift they reward you for it! Can you imagine playing online with people who actually benefit from trying to turn the race into a demolition derby? It's ridiculous...

Finally, the "upgrading" of your car has been reduced to a few generic options to choose from. Some of the "upgrades" do absolutely nothing to improve the performance of your car. When you upgrade your body kit for better handling and such you end up with a Hot Wheels looking, vaguely similar rendition of what your car originally looked like. On most cars you even wind up with a huge over-sized spoiler that reminds me of a spoiler meant for a 1960's old school hot rod.

I personally say rent this game if you're a NFS fanboy (or girl) but if you're looking for a good racing sim, stay away! Luckily my room mate purchased this one and I have no emotional or financial ties to this train wreck of a game.

I have played the demo for this game and i thought it was going to be the best racing game there is out there. Not anymore. You don't even get to drive your own car half of the time you do manufaturer races and use their vehicles. The rear ends of cars feel like butter.Great graphics, very realistic, but not fun.if you like racing games with cars that slide around corners like they are on a a slip'n'slide then go ahead, get it.

I am a fan of the Need for Speed series and although this is far from the style that got me hooked on the series that doesnt mean that its a dissapointment. The graphics are not bad and vehicle selection isnt too shabby, cobble that with the impressive racing mechanics and the game is pretty entertaining. Overall its a game that is fun but isnt going to turn heads. A good casual racer.

Hey not all of us are into online multiplayer!!!

Maybe I'm old fashioned (there's no maybe about it) but I was really dissapointed that this game did not have a split-screen VS mode. NOT FREAKIN' COOL MAN! On a positive note graphics are great and the sound is spectacular... but unfortunately i have to stop there. Career mode doesnt offer any real opportunities to try out a variety of different vehicles seeing how money is in great supply so it is just too easy to buy the best car on the list at almost any point in time. Here is a tip for the NFS franchise... Make us pay after the race to repair our cars! This simple change also makes us drive with a little more caution, further increasing the challenge. Nice try guys but there are too many great racers out there and "NFS Shift" just didn't meet the bar.
