The game was pretty fun ... when I could actually play. In the middle of a race, the game would have to switch hosts, or disconnect from server constantly, totally taking you out of the moment. It was unplayable.
I rented this game so that I could enjoy some friendly split screen competition... and wish I would've read up a bit more before, because split screen is not available. Oh well, otherwise, it is a fun game to play with all the lovely 'Need for Speed' characteristics that their fans can appreciate.

You can definitely tell that Need for Speed is trying to innovate in Rivals. However some of these innovations take from the creative elements that built a Need for Speed game. The next-gen graphics on Rivals are some of the best I've seen so far, but the lack of a pause menu (even in single player) and the horrible Kinect voice commands left me highly frustrated at times. Commands that often open an unpaused menu in the middle of a race, or that force the camera to look around your car are not even a rare occurrence... and these commands cannot even be turned off in settings. However, this game is very fun and can get addictive even with all of the issues and the lack of car customization. I would not purchase Rivals but I definitely recommend renting it for a time.
