Just not as engaging as previous titles

What the game does, it does very well. The developers have a lot of experience making arcade racing games, and this one is prime example of that talent.
The things that dew me in to the previous Need for Speed titles, were just missing from this version. No doubt that was by design, but they are still things I missed. There is no more customizing a vehicle with art, wheels, body kits, paint, etc. You get a random paint job that changes when you drive through a repair spot. Even when you get "Aero Body" kits from races, they do not change the look of the vehicle.
I also liked the previous story and characters. The new version lacks any narrative and gone are the characters behind the wheel.
To a lesser extent, I also miss the environmental tack downs that were in previous iterations. I could easily live without those though for the sake of characters and vehicle customization.
There are a lot of cars and an interesting open map, but at the end, I don't feel compelled to see what happens next, because I know what happens. There is another car parked around a corner, or eventually I can win of the most wanted cars. No mystery, just races.
