IGN Preview of National Geographic Panda
Over at the Bandai Namco section at E3 are a whole bunch of the cutest endangered, hard to breed bears-but-not-bears ever to grace a video game. It's National Geographic: Pandas and it's all sorts of adorable.
Okay so Pandas is a pet simulation game, with pandas. The end.
...Oh you wanted more? Okay let's break this thing down.
You can feed the pandas. When they're babies, like the ones we were dealing with, you feed them bottles. Everything is stylus based so we held the bottle in front of the panda and it snatched it from our grasp and happily suckled on it. It was freaking adorable.
You can pet the pandas. Rubbing the pandas with a stylus gives them loving affection. They will happily roll onto their back and beg for belly rubs if in the mood. This is also really cute.
You can play with the panda. We got to grab a ball from the inventory and start throwing it toward one of the baby pandas. He happily smacked it with a paw and sent it bouncing back. Sickeningly sweet.
You can wash the pandas. Not only that, they're very well behaved when you do. The filthy little panda we washed knew when to roll over so we could wash his back and didn't try to run away when we had to wash his face (unlike most dogs!). Then when we were done he shook the excess water off. D'aaaaaaw!
As far as we're concerned if we're going to play another pet care game, it better be something that is exotic or cool. Pandas are exotic and cool! The animals get to wear clothes and they act like we imagine pandas act, since we've never actually played with any in real life. The environments seem pretty nice, they have lots of interactive objects and we hear the game is even educational.
