A Challenge Not Worth Taking

Trivia Pursuit. Jeopardy. Games that have been around for a few decades – and show that show trivia type games can be successful.
But it’s not easy to make such a game entertaining as well as educational. National Geographic Challenge tries it best to give a fun game by giving a few modes of play and letting up to four players take on the challenges.
The first mode is the Quiz Mode, where players answer 40, 60, or 80 multiple choice questions for points. Highest point total at the end of the round wins.
Then there’s Explorer Mode where up to four players play on a Risk – style game board. But instead of rolling dice, players have to answer questions or put puzzle pieces in the right spots to determine who gets that space. Winner is the player who gets a set number of locations.
There are other puzzle games where a single player can piece together a puzzle or take on the sliding puzzle style to put the picture back together.
But the biggest problem with this game is unlike Trivia Pursuit or Jeopardy, there’s no twist or creativity in the game play. The questions are bland and the presentation is about as flat as you can get. And as I was playing the game, I felt like I was back in middle or high school taking a multiple-choice test to pass the Geography class. Boring!
National Geographic Challenge is a game that should’ve been fun to play, but isn’t. SKIP IT.
