A screwball, deadpan comedy that captured the imagination of indie movie fans everywhere, Napoleon Dynamite follows the adventures and misadventures of a nerd finding joy in a teenage, Midwest wasteland. Starring Jon Heder and directed by Jared Hess, Napoleon Dynamite takes place in Preston, Idaho, where our hero is bullied and ignored by his fellow high-schoolers. With his sour face, awful wardrobe, and giant red 'fro, Napoleon leads a depressing home life with his older brother and has-been uncle. At school he tries to find a date for the school dance and helps his friend run for school president. It's hardly the makings of a groundbreaking film, but a nostalgia piece for the '80s mixed with dry, hilarious performances makes Napoleon Dynamite an endearing tale. Fans of Old School, the Breakfast Club and Rushmore should apply immediately.
