NFL GameDay 2002 updates the look and feel of NFL GameDay 2001. Immerse yourself in the game with players representing their real-world counterparts, right down to their facial expressions. Football stadiums created with historical landmarks show the progressive wear-and-tear of the game. Total Control Passing allows for lead and underthrow passing in any direction with the D-pad. Award-winning gameplay allows you to break shoestring tackles and drag and dodge tackles on second and third tries. Create-A-Player and General Manager modes allow you to personalize your teams. Play-by-play commentary by Dick Enberg and Dan Fouts heats up the NFL action.

Critics and consumers agreed that Red Zone Interactive, which developed GameDay 2001 for the PlayStation 2, put forth a rather halfhearted effort in bringing the first-party football game to Sony's console.
