It’s fun to play – maybe not to own

When there’s a hit TV show, chances are there’s going to be a game based on that TV show.
NCIS (a drama on CBS for those of us who don’t know what it is) is about a criminal investigative group that looks into crimes committed against naval personnel.
In this game, you get four cases, and four crimes (mostly murder) that you will solve by gathering evidence, processing said evidence, talking with witnesses or suspects, and putting the pieces together to get the whodunit solved. If you’ve played the CSI games, then you know what you’re going to get.
Gathering up evidence mostly consists of finding the odd object or mark in the scene, pointing at it with the Wiimote, and pressing the A button.
After that, you play a simple mini game where you collect the evidence. You might press A and wave the Wiimote in one direction to move objects or follow simple directions to take pictures.
Processing evidence consists of playing simple mini games
One game has you – you matching up one thing with a list of other things (fingerprints, tire tracks, bullets)
Or you can sift through a list of information to find the one clue that helps solve the case.
Or you can answer a multiple choice question on how two pieces of evidence go together.
Or you could keep your Wiimote pointed at a moving circle for a short period of time.
The mini games are simple, and gave me some fun – but they got tiring after a while. And finding some clues at the crime scene can frustrate some players.
But fans of the show will really like this game because it faithfully follows the show: there’s the same stories and the great chemistry between the main cast that make the TV show a hit.
But after getting through the game – about five hours – I found little reason to go back and go through it a second time.
NCIS, the game is for fans of the show. But some glitches in gameplay, and a short shelf life really give me a reason not to buy it. RENT IT.
