If Tony Hawk played basketball...

NBA Street Vol. 2 is a basketball game with style. It's truly an arcade style game and even utilizes style points for all the cool moves and combos you pull off trying to make that slam dunk.
This kind of combo system might remind you of the Tony Hawk series, which isn't a bad thing. If I can level one complaint, it's that the system has no relevance on the score for standard games, except for bragging rights. In fact, it's better to simply run to the long-shot mark and try for extra points on the scoreboard.
Also reminiscent of Tony Hawk is the Be A Legend mode, where you slowly build your own baller up as you beat opponents on the court. After defeating a rival team, you can recruit one of their players to your posse. At first, these are all generic models, but later you'll start to see famous players like Shaq, Kobe, Scotty, etc. You'll meet plenty of legends both past and present, as well as some made specifically for the game series.
You can also flex your ball skills in NBA Challenge, where you play as the major teams, but in street ball matches. This helps you unlock more courts and players.
As for the gameplay, it works well overall. However, your opponents tend to be either pushovers or annoying. The annoying types will take cheap shots and begin highly unlikely comebacks as you near a win. Rubber band AI might be at work here...
The announcer is fun, even if he makes no sense most of the time. And the color commentary is surprisingly fluid and accurate.
If you want a basketball game that plays fun and fast instead of detailed and realistic, you'll like this game. If your not big into basketball, however, this game likely won't sway your opinion.
