As I’m playing NBA 2K13, I get the same feeling I get from a few too many sports games on the Wii this year (Madden, FIFA, Baseball): I’ve seen everything this year in last year’s version, but nothing new that will justify the $40 price tag (At least they followed the baseball’s lead and not charge $50 for the game.)
Just like In FIFA Soccer 13, this game says that it has a new offense system that uses the right analog stick for dribbling, passing or shooting – but when I used the Classic controller in the Wii version of NBA 2K13, there was no change from last year. All the right analog stick is used for in offense is shooting the ball – just like NBA 2K12 on the Wii.
The other game modes are just like in last year’s version: the greatest teams matchups, the blacktop mini games, the playoff mode, and the season mode.
But what may turn off many players is the still absent online play. This is the at least the sixth installment in the series, so why isn’t there a choice for online play?
As far as the gameplay goes, the way to go is the Classic controller – the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo still is buggy – especially on the free throw attempts (just like almost every other version of the NBA games on the Wii).
The Classic controls work well, and there’s great voiceover from the commentators that made playing the game enjoyable. But there’s nothing outstanding on display here.
NBA 2K13 for the Wii is just last year’s version with a few minor changes – it’s best just to get an older version with a far cheaper price. SKIP IT.
