Super Kart GP should in theory be a brilliant game. It has the cutesy graphics and plenty of traditional multi-player racing staples like power-ups and spoilers but it got messed up by a couple of things.
The good stuff is the aforementioned graphics, smooth animation, variety of characters and individual special attacks/moves and a nice tutorial system for anyone who has been in a cave for the last 20 years.
BUT and it is a big but - the steering, while repsonsive, is over-responsive at slow speeds, either at the start or if you drive into one of the obstacles. It seems clear the sterring response was only designed for above-average and top spees whereit becomes more intuitive.
Related to this is the behavior when driving real fast and you "crash" - that's in quotes because you can crash just for going over a hump in the road too quickly and are rewarded with a fast reset back on the track. Also if you clip a wall or fence at the edge of the course you will start bouncing from one side to the other and it is near impossile to control with the ultra responsive controls kicking in - highly frustrating.
Overall it's probably worth a try to rent this as it can be fun. You just need to be aware of the very frustrating aspects of the game which can drive you up the wall.
A couple of tips - make sure you complete the time trials to get the special abilities for the drivers - Jacks level 3 pumpkindrop can massacre those behind him prtty good! :-)
As in any racing game look for the shortcuts and the special areas to get the power ups.
Don't be afraid to just let off the gas for a split second when taking some hard corners - it will pay off big time if you can stay in the track while others go into "bouncing off the walls" mode.
Rent it and try it but don't have high expectations of a completely great expeience.
