MotorStorm: Arctic Edge Review

I give this game a 7/10. While the graphics were second-rate, almost cartoonish, I do like the fact that the wheels spin realistically; what can I say - I like details. Some games, you can tell the motion is fake. I liked that there's a broad selection of vehicles, as well as 'upgraded' versions for each kind, and a broad selection of tracks. There's also a vast collection of unlockables (and not just a couple of types, either). The game is challenging without being totally impossible, making it satisfying to get the gold (when you finally get it). Vehicles show damage when they take hits, especially hard hits, which adds a bit of realism to the game to make up for the graphics. I also liked that you could knock players out of the races for a few seconds, making it slightly easier to win. And of course, the setting is awesome; I like the cold-weather vehicles and such, especially the snow cat.
Unfortunately, the special races - speed races, timer races, and so on - are next to impossible to get gold medals in. I did manage to get golds for the first two special races I unlocked, but it took me a long time to do so in both cases. I found it difficult to reset to track unless prompted, and sometimes even then, meaning that I wiped out a number of times instead of being able to get right back onto the track.
Overall: the graphics aren't top-notch, but the game is challenging and has a lot of unlockables, and the setting/theme is great. Like I said, 7/10.
