My son and I are huge fans of the 2nd Motorstorm game and had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, one thing that makes Motorstorm a great game is the outdoor setting and this game is too much about driving on streets and small areas. We played about 10 hours of this, but we were so disappointed they decided to change the formula. The UI for getting into a game took a step back as well. It now requires going into a sub-menu for options like track, cars, and etc. Hopefully the next MS returns to its roots.
I compare this to a Micheal Bay type of experience because this is such a obnoxious, over the top, confusing game, but ohh did I have fun. Do not take this game seriously. This game a chaotic fun mess that will amaze you will visuals and the fluidity of the racing. You will never see The "track" the same way twice. As earthquakes, military involvement and massive storms ravage the earth, you are chosen to drive through it. Buildings will collapse 10 feet in front of you, forcing you to make split second desicions while traveling at blistering speeds. This gave me such an adrenaline rush, and when you make it through it, you feel like an action star. The game is split up into three sections. A rookie section, a pro section and a veteran section. Each part has the same maps, but in the midst of an apocolypse the courses are all altered and never feel the same. You use a variety of vehicles from motorcycles to monster trucks, which is a nice change of pace. However, the cutscenes are annoying, poorly animated and meeger jokes: dont know what they were thinking with this. The game feels fluid, even with everything happening on the screen and with water and jumps providing cooling for boosts, adds an extra bit of strategy. All in all this is a really fun racing game, but it is fairly short, at times frustrating, and occasional repetitiveness. If you sit back, relax, and enjoy the explosions, you will walk away happy like I did. Rent it! (dont buy it IMO)
