Good but not great and a bit short

I expected much more than what the game delivered for me.

The graphics and audio are pretty good. The gameplay is a mixed bag. The game seems to not be able to decide whether to be a first person platformer or first person shooter.

Gameplay: The parkor/freerunning elements are very nice. When your movement flows, it feels amazing. When it doesn't, it's amazingly frustrating. It takes some degree of mastery to begin to move fluently through the environment. For those who master the movement in the game, the obstacles in the story mode, speed runs, and time trial challenges will be very rewarding. For those who don't, well, it's going to be an exercise in frustration having to repeat a section many times over. Thankfully, the story mode has a built in save system that usually doesn't punish mistakes. You usually start back very near where you died/failed.

Combat: It's pretty often frustrating and feels out of place. There are places where you HAVE to fight and cannot simply run (unless you get VERY lucky). These situations often make Mirror's Edge feel like a run of the mill first person shooter. Which is NOT what I wanted to play M.E. for.

2D Cut-scenes: They feel like they were done as a cost cutting measure rather than use the game engine. They served to really jar the player out of the immersion of Mirror's Edge's world. The are rendered scenes, like the tutorial with Celeste or the first meeting with Ropeburn or the ending sequence that worked well. If DICE and EA had just done the same with the cut-scenes, it would have been better.

LENGTH: 5-6 hours to complete story mode just isn't worth 60.00 IMO. I'm glad I rented and did not purchase. Definitely doesn't feel like a full game - it ends with questions unanswered open for a sequel. I feel like they should have just made a complete game rather than milking gamers with DLC or a short "sequel". Unfortunately this is becoming the norm with game development now.

Edge of Perfection

When I first heard of this game, I was impressed by it's theme. An action-adventure game in a FPS point of view. I tried the game and I wasn't impressed with the tutorial. The controls seemed hard but once you get into it they are pretty simple. I liked the graphics and the gameplay is awesome. The tutorial really led me the wrong way. Here's what I think,
Pros: Sweet graphics, good gameplay and storyline, voice acting is good, and the way the landscape tells you were to go is very helpful in tough situations.
Cons: Controls could be made a little easier, sometimes it's easy to be overwhelmed by enemies since it can be difficult to take them down, and it can be hard at some parts.

This game is totally worth playing, even though it is entirely different than other games, it really opens up possibilities for more games like this. I totally recommend you try this game. You'll be impressed.
