I didn't play much of the old 2D metroid games, so I really have nothing to compare this to in that way, but it was pretty good compared to the Prime series (Which I loved), and I was a little let down when the "First Person Mode" was very weak compared to running around in third person. It would have been real nice if you could add on the nunchuk and play Prime style. The controls were kinda odd and had a slight learning curve and once again, really could have used the nunchuk. On a different note, the story was pretty good, and the graphics of the cinematic scenes were some of the best I've ever seen, especially for a Wii game, and I believe they should have worked harder on the in-game graphics, and should have atleast had them more comparable to Prime 3: Corruption, but I'm not complaining. The only problems I had with the game were the controls, and the length. It was very short compared to the Prime series (I don't know how long the 2D ones were >.<) and I beat the game in about 8 to 10 hours. I would have another problem with this game actually, but it is sort of a spoiler, so just play the game and if u are a regular player of the Metroid series, you'll know what I'm talking about (It has to do with how you get more weapons). All in all I give the game an 8 out of 10 for the gameplay, story and graphics, and recommend it for rent for those that like the Metroid Series.
This game is very hard for a kids system especally when you have to aim with the wii remote and push the trigger button at the same time. It would of been better on the Playstation 3 or XBOX 360. Where the controller is easier to use. Other then that this game is good and fun to play. The bosses are ever harder to fight. and kill with the Wii remote then a controller is. other then that the game is fun to play
I liked the idea of going back to a 2D metroid. The problem here is that it is and it isn't. Jumping back and forth between first person and 3rd person is awkward and annoying (you use the wiimote sideways for normal control but then point it at the screen for 1st person). While there's some neat ideas here and finally some character development, the controls are too dam.n cumbersome to make the game really enjoyable. Too many fights require you to jump to 1st person view and wildly swing the view around until you've found the target to lock onto - only to get nailed for half your energy. Frustrating.
