From someone who has beaten normal and hard modes.

Cool game. There could be many improvements, but what a great first step in a new style of gameplay which I now have come to really enjoy. I love the feel of just the wii-mote and the simple controls and the back and forth between 3rd person and 1st person is very enjoyable. And the D-pad worked just fine; I liked it. As a matter of fact, when someone else who I live with went to play the Metroid Prime trilogy and asked me what a particular control was, I found myself desiring to play more of Metroid: Other M with just the wii-mote.
It took a while into the game before the gameplay started to grow on me; or rather, when it just struck me at some point that it was all very enjoyable. And the story, even if I or anyone else could and would create a more quality one (which I haven't really formed an opinion on yet), was engaging and accentuated the gameplay.
At first, I couldn't see myself buying this game, but after playing it on hard, I could; I could see myself playing it maybe once or twice a year - who knows - just to enjoy the controls and the gameplay again.
An especially noteworthy 'boss' on hard is Ridley - it was very cool...very fun.
And to add to all this, I like playing this game with as much as a conscious intent to relax that I can allow, for it seemed when I went along with this intent, the 'bosses' on hard with all their cheap-shots ;) was much less frustrating and a lot more fun.

I agree with the IGN score of 8.5 out of 10 to be precise. But you know, I had to round up...

Unlike all of these other people, I won't bore you with a bunch of drivel.

Metroid has a good premise, and, though at first seems pretty cheesy, ends up with a better than average storyline. The game itself is a blast, although you'll probably find yourself mashing the 1 button more than you'd like. The auto targeting system makes it easy to plow through enemies, but sometimes feels a bit monotonous. The dodging system is fun and adds a cinematic dynamic to your battles making you feel like you're way more skilled than you really are. The boss battles are good, but easy. The game spans about nine hours, so it'll kill a Saturday for you when you're bored. The nice thing is that after you beat the game (if you stick through the credits) you get a bonus stage. This gives you an opportunity to go through all of the areas you missed, and it'll add a good four or five extra hours onto the game. Overall, this really is one of the better titles on the Wii. I'd recommend it to anyone who's sick and tired of playing Circus Games.

I have never been into any of the Metroid games. So I wasn't expecting anything. I have played a few but never ultimately played one all the way through.

The graphics were pretty impressive for the Wii and the controls were very simple holding the Wiimote sideways. But fingers can get a little cramped when u have to press the A button while moving with the d-pad.

A decent story too. Can't skip the cutscenes though. (At least the first time around.) And they tend to be a bit long but u learn alot about Samus' back-story.

All in all, a good game but still the Metroid series isn't my type of game...
