Although the game's atmosphere and environment are top notch, it does not cover the fact that the actual game is pretty sub par. Things such as horrid enemy AI, frustrating weapon system, broken pickup mechanics, and shallow combat encounters and puzzles makes Metro 2033 a very wearisome and unappealing experience.
The title fits the bill. I got this game because it looked something like fallout.. Well it didn't disappoint me much. I really liked some of the aspects of the game. For the simple fact the storyline was so awesome. There weren't that many guns but they did have some awesome ones. I'm a critic and I'm giving this a 7. It would be good to rent... but not buy.
I had high hopes for Metro 2033. I had been following the game prior to release and even thought about purchasing the book. I played through the end of chapter 2 and lost interest. The game is not bad but not very good either. To me (keep in mind I only played the first few level), the game seems like what would happen if Resident Evil, Call of Duty, and Fallout 3 smashed together. That would probably be a great combination but this game doesn't really do any of the genres justice.
The story was well presented and voice acting was very good. I did feel interested in the story. I did think the pacing was slow. At one point in the game I visited a town. All the citizens were talking at once. I couldn't understand any of the comments and it was extremely distracting. It felt like bad AI programming.
Overall, there might be some good content here, but it definitely wasn't in the first 2-3 hours.
