Never has the Metal Gear series been so balls-out crazy and ridiculous. That was to be expected considering that this is Platinum Games we're talking about. For the most part, this wacky departure from the norms of the franchise is a welcome and exciting detour. From the beginning to the end, the game is action-packed, and you'll be screaming along long after the final boss beats the bejeezus out of you over and over again. Not being able to block or dodge takes getting used to, but stick with it, and this is quite an awesome rental, granted that you can bear through its insane amount of sadistic brutality and cheesy dialogue.
Really, REALLY cool free blade; this tech is the highlight of this game, and without it makes for a very boring hack/slash
Cool upgrades and weapons, lots of combos
Very challenging or very easy -- it's up to you
Horrible, horrible, terrible, awful voice talent and dialogue.
Unintelligible story, this stuff makes some sense but it's so boring that I don't care.
Repititive: there is very little replay value in this game.
NOT METAL GEAR ENOUGH.
Konami shold know better than to release a spin off of a sneaking series with next to no sneaking. There are some sneaking scenes but it's so clunky that it's almost pointless to even try sneaking. I wanted to like Metal Gear Rising, but they took it way too far off of the radar for my tastes, and I'm a huge MGS fan.
In this day, bad camera control is no longer acceptable. Period. Bad parry and blocking mechanics in a hack n slash is no longer acceptable. Period. If you have no care to acheive the primary goals of combat (to get those health and money packs inside your enemies which require both a mastery of the combat and the camera) and just want to run through without any of it, you may not mind those things, because this game if full of it. The fact that everyone has to make mention/excuses/browbeat others about their skill level and go elsewhere to LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE GAME is NOT acceptable. Period. Blah blah it's pretty blah blah not stealth... who cares when your controller is across the room in peices.
Ignore the metacritic paid for glowing reviews and save yourself the frustration.
