This game, while an important step for Mega Man X fans, might be better avoided for your casual gamer.
The gameplay is concise and controls are responsive, however, continual switches between a 2D enviroment and a 3D representational environment might leave someone a little disoriented.
Sound is generally accurate and well done, remaining true to previous Mega Man titles. However, voice acting is atrocious. If that's a concern for you, you'll have a big let down, as characters speak with no feeling in a monotone.
It tends and tries to stick more to the side-scrolling aspect of previous games while trying to introduce elements of a 3D environment. The next title does not move in the space of 3 dimensions, which would lead me to conclude they saw this as a failure.
If you're interested in the plot of Mega Man X, this introduces an important new character, but other than that, nothing else quite important happens. If you're a devoted fan, you might want to consider it. However, if you're new to the series, you would be much better off starting with the next title, X8, or a collections disc.
