Being a big fan of MOH:AIRBORNE and MOH2010, I had high hopes for MOH:WARFIGHTER. Although I enjoyed Dice's MOH2010 multiplayer (and still play to this day), I was interested in seeing what Danger Close would do having creative control over both SP and MP. Well, I should have kept my hopes low.
SP is familiar, looks good, and plays fine, but it doesn't ever fully engage. And upon the ending, is there any replay value? Strangely, I would be more apt to replay MOH:AIRBORNE than WARFIGHTER.
But all shooters are now MP showcases... so how does WARFIGHTER stack up? The fighting environments are completely unremarkable, the total destruction of the Frostbite 2 engine seems nonexistent, and the gameplay smacks of COD. There are some interesting little tweaks like the buddy system (think BF3 two man squad), sliding into cover, and calling in blackhawks for respawns, but theses aren't enough to make WARFIGHTER unique. After two straight days of play I can't remember anything remarkable about the gameplay... other than the servers being full.
Glitches. Yes, they are there... spawning into "dead space" and falling to your death under the map happens... a lot (6 times in one round!). Also, spawning into areas of the maps where you cannot access the area of play happens... a lot. Usually I'd gripe, but DC will certainly fix these. Just know currently it's a somewhat glitchy experience.
In the end, I feel WARFIGHTER would have done better to again have had Dice create MOH MP using the Frostbite 2 engine to its full potential, but is EA really interested in both BATTLEFIELD and MOH? It starts to feel like MOH is slowly starting to morph into BATTLEFIELD dlc. As it is, sadly WARFIGHTER is an underwhelming experience. It's not bad... just middling.
After playing WARFIGHTER for a few days, I put it away and played BFBC2 and MOH2010. That says something. C'mon Danger Close, don't become Zipper Interactive! Watch your 6!
